CKPG-TV ( analogue channel 2) is a television station in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada, affiliated with Citytv. The station is owned by the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group, and maintains studios on 3rd Avenue (near Winnipeg Street) in Prince George; its transmitter is located atop Pilot Mountain. CKPG also operates rebroadcasters in Hixon (CKPG-TV-1, channel 10), Mackenzie (CKPG-TV-4, channel 6), and Quesnel (CKPG-TV-5, channel 13). History The station first signed on the air on August 20, 1961, originally operated as a CBC affiliate. It was founded by the owner of local radio station CKPG (1230 AM, now CKDV-FM on 99.3 FM), broadcasting at a transmitter power output of 8,300 watts. Citytv is a Canadian television network owned by the Rogers Sports & Media subsidiary of Rogers Communications. The licence of the original Citytv station, granted the callsign of CITY-TV by the CRTC on November 25, 1971 to Cable Television Association executive and former print journalist Phyllis Switzer, who moved with her family from western Canada (Alberta) to Toronto in 1967. CKKN-FM, branded as ''101.3 The River'', is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts a hot adult contemporary format at 101.3 FM in Prince George, British Columbia. The station is owned by the Jim Pattison Group, which also owns sister stations CKDV-FM and CKPG-TV. History The station was launched in 1981 by Q Broadcasting, as a country station with the call sign CIOI and the brand name ''Country 101''. Q Broadcasting sold its holdings to Monarch Broadcasting in 1990. Monarch converted the station to the CKKN call sign in 1995, and to its current format in 1999. CKDV-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 99.3 FM in Prince George, British Columbia. The station plays a classic hits format branded as ''99.3 Rewind Radio''. The station is owned by Jim Pattison Group. History The station was originally launched in 1946 as CKPG 1230 AM, and moved to 550 the following year. The station, owned by CKPG Radio Ltd., was an affiliate of the CBC's Trans-Canada Network. In 1961, CKPG Radio also launched the city's first television station, CKPG-TV. The stations were acquired by Q Broadcasting in 1969. In 1981, a sister FM station, CIOI, was launched. The first incarnation of E!, also referred to as E! Entertainment Television, was a Canadian English language privately owned television system that existed from 2001 to 2009 under the ownership of Canwest. Brian Roy Spencer (September 3, 1949 – June 3, 1988) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played ten seasons in the National Hockey League for the Buffalo Sabres, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins.
