CKGL (570 AM) is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts at 570 AM in Kitchener, Ontario. The station currently broadcasts a news/talk format branded on-air as ''CityNews 570''. The station is owned by Rogers Sports & Media, and is an affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays Radio Network. CKGL is also the radio broadcaster for the Kitchener Rangers. History The station was originally launched in 1949 as FM 96.7 CKCR-FM, simulcasting the programming of CKCR. In 1965, the stations were acquired by Great Lakes Broadcasting, a consortium that included Maclean-Hunter. Both stations changed their callsigns to CHYM (pronounced as "chime") that year. CHYM-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 96.7 FM in Kitchener, Ontario. The station currently airs an adult contemporary format using its on-air brand name as ''CHYM 96.7'' and is owned by Rogers Sports & Media. CHYM's studios are at The Boardwalk, while its transmitter is on Baden Hill also known as the Baden Tower, just west of the Kitchener city limits. History The station was originally launched in 1929 as AM 645 CKCR. The station's frequency moved to 1510 in 1934. In 1949, FM sister station CKCR-FM was launched. The stations were affiliates of CBC Radio until 1966 and with CBC's Dominion Network from 1949 until 1960. CIKZ-FM (106.7 MHz) is a commercial FM radio station in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. The station airs a country format branded as ''Country 106.7'' and is owned by Rogers Sports & Media, which also owns sister stations CHYM-FM and CKGL. CIKZ's studios are at The Boardwalk in Kitchener. CIKZ-FM has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 1,700 watts (5,000 watts maximum). The transmitter is on Wilby Road near Wilmot Line in Wilmot, Ontario. History CIKZ was licensed to Larche Communications, the station's original owner, by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission in 2003. ''CityNews'' (corporately styled City''News'') is the title of news and current affairs programming on Rogers Sports & Media's Citytv network in Canada. The newscast division was founded on September 28, 1975 as ''CityPulse'' as a standalone local newscast on the network's Toronto and Vancouver stations owned by CHUM Limited. Through the acquisitions of the Edmonton, Winnipeg and Calgary A-Channel stations in 2004, it was relaunched under the CityNews brand on August 2, 2005 and later expanded to Montreal in 2012. Maclean-Hunter (M-H) was a Canadian communications company, which had diversification (finance), diversified holdings in radio, television, magazines, newspapers and cable television distribution. Toronto Blue Jays Radio Network
The Toronto Blue Jays Radio Network consists of 21 stations (17 AM, 4 FM) in 7 Canadian provinces broadcasting the team's games in English. At the start of the 2021 season, the radio broadcasts consisted of a simulcast of the audio from the Sportsnet television broadcasts of Blue Jays games, featuring play-by-play announcer Dan Shulman and colour analysts Buck Martinez and Pat Tabler, with Rob Wong and Shoaib Ali serve as on-air hosts. The simulcasts continued through the end of July, after which a dedicated radio broadcast was used with Ben Wagner calling play-by-play. From 2018 to 2020, the radio team consisted of play-by-play announcers Wagner and Mike Wilner. Wagner succeeded longtime radio announcer Jerry Howarth following the latter's retirement, while former radio analyst Joe Siddall moved to the television pregame show.
