CKBA-FM
CKBA-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 94.1 FM in Athabasca, Alberta with a classic hits format branded as ''Boom 94.1''. The station is owned by Stingray Group. History CKBA was granted a broadcast license for 850 kHz in 1988. CKBA began broadcasting on August 1, 1989. At that time, CKBA's license was to provide 24 hours of local programming per week, including 2 hours and 18 minutes of local news. The rest of the programming was re-broadcast from CFOK in Westlock. At the point the station was known only by its call letters, CKBA. In 2002, CKBA was acquired by Newcap Broadcasting, and became part of Newcap's "Cat Country" radio network. CFOK
CKWB-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 97.9 FM in Westlock, Alberta. The station also serves the Barrhead area. The station currently airs a country format branded on-air as ''Real Country 97.9'' and was owned by Newcap Radio until they were bought out by Stingray Group. History It's uncertain when the station signed on as CFOK, however, the station dates back to the 1971 as a rebroadcaster of CKBA-FM. Boom FM
Boom FM is a branding of classic hits radio stations broadcasting in Canada. The trademark is owned by Bell Media, although only two stations using the branding are owned by that company. The name "Boom" is a reference to baby boomers, who are the main target of the network. History "Boom" was first launched on May 1, 2003 as a network of French-language oldies stations, and originally included CFEI-FM and CHRD-FM. CFVM-FM and CFZZ-FM joined the network in 2005 after these stations were acquired by Astral Media from Corus Entertainment. All four stations previously had an adult contemporary format. Athabasca ( 2021 population 2,759), originally named Athabasca Landing, is a town in northern Alberta, Canada. It is located north of Edmonton at the intersection of Highway 2 and Highway 55, on the banks of the Athabasca River. It is the centre of Athabasca County. The Canadian Communications Foundation (CCF) is a Canadian nonprofit organization which documents the history of broadcasting in Canada, particularly radio and television. Since 1995, the organization has distributed its collection via an internet website. Classic hits is a radio format which generally includes songs from the top 40 music charts from the late 1960s to the early 2000s, with music from the 1980s serving as the core of the format.
