CJWA-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 107.1 FM in Wawa, Ontario. The station broadcasts an adult contemporary format under the on-air brand ''JJAM FM''. History The original CJWA CJWA was originally launched in 1964 by Sault Ste. Marie's Highland Broadcasting as an AM station, broadcasting at 1240 kHz on the AM dial. The station aired a mixture of original programming and simulcasting of the Sault station CJIC and was a CBC Radio affiliate until 1985. In 1976, an ownership shuffle in the Sault gave CJWA to Huron Broadcasting, which converted the station's simulcast source to its own CKCY. In 1985, CKCY and CJWA were acquired by CKCY 920 Ltd., who again changed the station's simulcasting source, this time to CKCY's sister station CJQM. In 1988, the stations were acquired by the Mid-Canada Radio network, which in turn was sold to the Pelmorex Radio Network in 1990. CJQM-FM (''Country 104.3'') is an FM radio station in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The station is owned and operated by Rogers Sports & Media and broadcasts a country format. With 100,000 watts power, CJQM's signal is one of the strongest in the Sault Ste. Marie area, and can be heard northward to Montreal River and southward to Mackinaw City, Michigan and at times to Gaylord. History The station was launched on May 13, 1965 as CKCY-FM by Algonquin Broadcasting, the owners of the city's CKCY-AM. In 1976, both stations were acquired by Huron Broadcasting, who also launched CKCY-TV in 1978. Huron subsequently sold the radio stations to a new business consortium, CKCY 920 Ltd., in 1985. Chapleau is a township in Sudbury District, Ontario, Canada. It is home to one of the world's largest wildlife preserves. Chapleau has a population of 1,942 according to the 2016 Canadian census. The major industries within the town are the logging mill, Rayonier Advanced Materials (RYAM) (formerly, Tembec), and the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) rail yards. Marathon is a town in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in Thunder Bay District, on the north shore of Lake Superior north of Pukaskwa National Park, in the heart of the Canadian Shield. Geography Personal residences encompass an area starting from Lake Superior, and stretch out to a new subdivision near Penn Lake, an in-town campsite and beach in the eastern portion of the town. CFNO-FM is a Canadian radio station that broadcasts at 93.1 FM in Marathon, Ontario. The station broadcasts an adult contemporary format with the brand name ''Your Hometown Sound''. The station was launched in 1982 by North Superior Broadcasting. It was acquired by Dougall Media in 2002. Rebroadcasters CFNO serves a large portion of Northwestern Ontario through a network of rebroadcast transmitters. In 1986, CFNO received approval to add a transmitter at Nipigon/ Red Rock at 103.7 MHz. However, the station was advised to seek another frequency for the rebroadcaster instead. CFNO-FM eventually established a transmitter in Nipigon at 100.7 MHz. In 1988, CFNO received approval to add a transmitter, CFNO-FM-6, at Dubreuilville at 93.9 MHz. Owned and operated by Rogers Sports & Media, the station broadcasts a hot adult contemporary format branded as ''Kiss 100.5''. History The station was originally launched by Highland Broadcasting on May 15, 1964 as CJIC-FM, a sister station to CJIC and CJIC-TV.
