CJOY
CJOY is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 1460 AM in Guelph, Ontario. The station currently broadcasts an oldies/classic hits format and is branded on-air as ''1460 CJOY''. CJOY's sister station is CIMJ-FM. Both stations are owned by Corus Entertainment. History Wally Slatter and Fred Metcalf opened Guelph's first radio station CJOY, on June 14, 1948, on 1450 kHz with 250 watts power, non-directional with transmitter using one tower in Guelph Township, Wellington County. On April 1, 1960, CJOY moved to 1460 kHz powered at 10,000 watts day and 5,000 watts night (full-time) from a new site on the south half of a Lot in Puslinch Township, Wellington County. This required the use of four 164 foot (overall height) towers. CIMJ-FM (106.1 Hertz, MHz, ''Magic 106''), is a Canadian hot adult contemporary radio station based in Guelph, Ontario, in the Kitchener, Ontario, Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Waterloo market. Norm Jary
Norman Willard Jary (April 8, 1929–January 8, 2021) was a Canadian politician and broadcaster who served as Mayor of Guelph 1970 from 1985. He is the longest serving mayor in Guelph’s history. Outside of politics, Jary served as the news and sports director of CJOY and had a one year stint as the play-by-play announcer of the New York Rangers. Early life Jary was born on April 8, 1929 in Toronto. He graduated from Ryerson University’s Academy of Radio and Television Arts. In 1951 he joined CJCS-FM in Stratford, Ontario. In 1954 he was hired by CJOY as sports director and hockey play-by-play announcer. He eventually took on the role of news director as well. During his tenure at CJOY, he called games for the Guelph Biltmores, Guelph Royals, Guelph CMC’s/Mad Hatters/Platers, and Guelph Regals. Guelph
Guelph ( ; 2021 Canadian Census population 143,740) is a city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. Known as "The Royal City", Guelph is roughly east of Kitchener and west of Downtown Toronto, at the intersection of Highway 6, Highway 7 and Wellington County Road 124. It is the seat of Wellington County, but is politically independent of it. Lloyd Robertson (born January 19, 1934) is a Canadian journalist and former news anchor who is special correspondent on CTV's weekly magazine series, '' W5''. Robertson served as the chief anchor and senior editor of CTV's national evening newscast, '' CTV News with Lloyd Robertson,'' until September 2011, when he retired from the ''CTV National News'' team. Bob McAdorey
Robert Joseph McAdorey (July 24, 1935 – February 5, 2005) was a Canadian television and radio broadcaster. McAdorey was born and raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario. During his high school years, Bob McAdorey was the President of Alpha Kappa Chapter of Gamma Sigma Fraternity International at Stamford Collegiate. In the 1960s, McAdorey was one of Canada's most influential radio DJs, as the afternoon 1300-1600 and later drivetime, weekdays 1600-1900 host on 1050 CHUM. "Bob McAdorey, whose face is as well known in Toronto as Mayor Givens, has the most power to dictate what pop music Ontario teens listen to," the ''Toronto Telegram'' contended in 1966. Bob Bratina
Robert Bratina (born 1944) is a Canadian politician and former broadcaster who was the 56th mayor of Hamilton from 2010 to 2014. Previously, he sat on the Hamilton City Council from 2004 until 2010. He went on to be the Liberal member of Parliament for the riding of Hamilton East—Stoney Creek from 2015 to 2021. Early life Bratina was born in 1944 in Hamilton and grew up in the city's East End.
