CJKX-FM is a Canadian radio station. Although its official city of licence is Ajax, Ontario, the station operates from studios in Oshawa, Ontario with co-owned stations CKDO and CKGE-FM. Airing at 95.9 FM, the station broadcasts a country format branded as ''KX96''. History The station was launched on November 21, 1967 as AM 1390 CHOO. The station was acquired in 1973 by Community Communications, and in 1977 by Golden West Broadcasting. In 1994, the station was acquired by its current owner, Durham Radio, and moved to its current FM frequency. In 1999, the station added a 5 kW rebroadcaster (CJKX-FM-1) in Sunderland, operating on 89.9 FM to cover the area that receives interference from first-adjacent CFJB-FM. In 2006, CJKX was approved by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to add a rebroadcaster (CJKX-FM-2) in downtown Toronto, to operate on 95.9 FM, the same frequency as the main station. CKGE-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 94.9 FM from Oshawa, Ontario. The station broadcasts an active rock format under the brand name ''94.9 The Rock''. History The station was launched in 1957 by Lakeland Broadcasting as CKLB-FM 93.5, a sister station to AM outlet CKLB. The station aired an easy listening format. In 1966, the station changed its callsign to CKQS-FM, and moved to its current frequency later the same year. In 1979, CKLB and CKQS were acquired by Grant Broadcasting, and CKQS changed callsigns again, this time to CKQT-FM. Grant Broadcasting was subsequently acquired by Power Broadcasting in 1990. Drumheller
Drumheller is a town on the Red Deer River in the badlands of Central Alberta, east-central Alberta, Canada. It is northeast of Calgary and south of Stettler, Alberta, Stettler. The Drumheller portion of the Red Deer River valley, often referred to as Dinosaur Valley, has an approximate width of and an approximate length of . Drumheller was named after Samuel Drumheller, who, after purchasing the homestead of Thomas Patrick Greentree, had it surveyed into the original Drumheller townsite and put lots on the market in 1911. Also in 1911, Samuel Drumheller started coal mining operations near the townsite. Drumheller got a railway station in 1912. CHOO-FM was a radio station which broadcast on 101.7 MHz in Tofino, British Columbia, Canada from 2000 to 2002. History On July 15, 1999, P. L. M. Broadcasting Ltd. received approval from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to operate a new FM radio station at Tofino. The new station would broadcast with 50 watts of power with a mixture of a MOR format, including modern and light rock, classic and modern country music as well as local talent, and a talk show. The station also provided native languages like Nuu-chah-nulth language, consisting of stories and native music, along with two hours of french-language programming weekly. Funding for the station was to be provided by the Ma-Mook Development Corporation, a non-profit business development corporation created by the five Central Region First Nations of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council.
