CJDC (AM)
CJDC is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 890 AM in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. The station, owned by Bell Media, airs a country format. CJDC broadcasts with a power of 10,000 watts day and night and uses a non-directional antenna daytime, and a two-tower directional antenna nighttime, to protect Class-A clear-channel stations KBBI Homer, Alaska and WLS Chicago, Illinois. History The station was launched on December 15, 1947 by local broadcaster Radio Station CJDC (Dawson Creek, BC) Ltd. as an affiliate of the CBC's Trans-Canada Network, broadcasting on 1350 AM. In 1959, the company also launched CJDC-TV, a CBC Television affiliate, and changed its corporate name to CJDC Ltd. At a later date, the corporate name was changed to Mega Communications. The station adopted its current frequency of 890 AM in 1986, and added a rebroadcaster on 92.7 FM at Tumbler Ridge in 1988 with the callsign CJDC-1-FM. Standard Radio
Slaight Communications is a Canadian radio broadcasting company. The company was formed as Slaight Broadcasting in 1971, when owner J. Allan Slaight acquired CFGM in Richmond Hill. Slaight later also acquired CFOX in Montreal and CHOK in Sarnia, and launched CILQ in Toronto. The company later sold off all of its original assets, and continued to operate its radio holdings through the Standard Broadcasting division after Slaight bought out that company in 1985. As Standard, it remained the largest privately owned multimedia company in Canada until it sold its radio and TV broadcasting assets to Astral Media in 2007. Today, all of Standard Radio stations are either owned by Bell Media or Stingray Radio. Telemedia
Telemedia was a Canadian media company, which had holdings in radio, television and magazine publishing. The company was launched in 1968 by Philippe de Gaspé Beaubien, when he purchased CKAC in Montreal from Power Corporation of Canada. CKAC remained the company's radio flagship for its entire existence. Telemedia was held privately until it became publicly traded in the late 1980s. Telemedia's magazine assets, including ''Canadian Living'', ''Harrowsmith'', ''Homemakers'' and the Canadian editions of ''TV Guide'' and ''Elle'', were sold to Transcontinental Media in 2000. Standard Broadcasting subsequently acquired Telemedia's broadcasting assets in 2002, and sold some of them in turn to Rogers Communications and Newcap Broadcasting. Tumbler Ridge is a district municipality in the foothills of the B.C. Rockies in northeastern British Columbia, Canada, and a member municipality of the Peace River Regional District. FM Broadcasting
FM broadcasting is a method of radio broadcasting using frequency modulation (FM). Invented in 1933 by American engineer Edwin Armstrong, wide-band FM is used worldwide to provide high fidelity sound over broadcast radio. FM broadcasting is capable of higher fidelity—that is, more accurate reproduction of the original program sound—than other broadcasting technologies, such as AM broadcasting. A broadcast relay station, also known as a satellite station, relay transmitter, broadcast translator (U.S.), re-broadcaster (Canada), repeater (two-way radio) or complementary station (Mexico), is a broadcast transmitter which repeats (or transponds) the signal of a radio or television station to an area not covered by the originating station. It expands the broadcast range of a television or radio station beyond the primary signal's original coverage or improves service in the original coverage area. The stations may be (but are not usually) used to create a single-frequency network. They may also be used by an AM or FM radio station to establish a presence on the other band.
