CKPE-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting from Sydney, Nova Scotia at 94.9 FM. The station broadcasts a classic hits format branded as ''94.9 The Wave''. The station has been on the air since 1957 under the original call sign CJCB-FM. The station is owned and operated by the Maritime Broadcasting System. CJCB and CHER-FM are its sister stations. Every weekend, CKPE plays vintage ''American Top 40'' countdown shows hosted by Casey Kasem, one from the 1980s every Saturday morning, and one from the 1970s every Sunday morning. Easy listening (including mood music) is a popular music genre and radio format that was most popular during the 1950s to 1970s. It is related to middle-of-the-road (MOR) music and encompasses instrumental recordings of standards, hit songs, non-rock vocals and instrumental covers of selected popular rock songs.
