CIS Super League
The CIS Super League is a generic term given to the proposed association football league for the teams from Commonwealth of Independent States, mainly Russia and Ukraine. It is thought to be an idea inspired by the Kontinental Hockey League. Valery Gazzaev was the head of the committee in charge of the united league. History In 2012 UEFA gave the green light to the BeNe League, a top division of the women's league to include teams from both Belgium and Netherlands. Yevgeni Giner, chairman of CSKA Moscow has stated that he believes that this means that UEFA “has said it will allow the unification of championships”. The sponsor of the league is to be Gazprom. Gazprom are the owners of the cross-border KHL team SKA Saint Petersburg and Russian Premier League team FC Zenit Saint Petersburg. The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is a regional intergovernmental organization in Eurasia. It was formed following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. It covers an area of and has an estimated population of 239,796,010. The CIS encourages cooperation in economic, political and military affairs and has certain powers relating to the coordination of trade, finance, lawmaking, and security. It has also promoted cooperation on cross-border crime prevention. As the Soviet Union disintegrated, Belarus, Russia and Ukraine signed the Belovezh Accords on 8 December 1991, declaring that the Union had effectively ceased to exist and proclaimed the CIS in its place. On 21 December, the Alma-Ata Protocol was signed. 2014 United Supercup
The 2014 United Supercup, officially named G-Drive 2014 United Supercup (also known as 2014 United Tournament), was an exhibition football club tournament held in Israel from 30 January – 5 February 2014. It is the second edition of the United Tournament. The location was picked because the winter conditions would make it hard to play the games in Russia or Ukraine. Summary The four participating clubs were Shakhtar Donetsk, Metalist Kharkiv from Ukraine and Zenit St. Petersburg, CSKA Moscow from Russia. 2013 United Tournament
The 2013 United Tournament was an exhibition football club tournament that took place in Ukraine and Russia on 27 June – 7 July 2013. Four teams participated in it: Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv from Ukraine; Zenit St. Petersburg and Spartak Moscow from Russia. On 7 July 2013, Dynamo Kyiv beat Spartak Moscow 2–1 and won this tournament. Each team played four matches: both a home and away fixture against the two teams from the opposing country. The teams didn't play against their domestic rivals. Zenit St. Petersburg played their home matches in Kyiv, as their Petrovsky Stadium was under renovation works. The tiebreakers were: head-to-head results over the two legs, the aggregate goal difference. In total, 8 substitutions were allowed, but the additional five must take place at half time. United Tournament
The United Tournament or United Supercup was an exhibition football club tournament between two best clubs from Ukraine and two from Russia. The context of the tournament were the talks which are held regarding creating the United CIS championship, or joint Russia–Ukraine league. The organisers of the tournament were the same people in charge of drafting a proposal for the united league.
