CISQ-FM
CISQ-FM is an FM radio station owned by Rogers Sports & Media and operating in southwestern British Columbia. It broadcasts at 107.1 MHz in Squamish and 102.1 MHz in Whistler. It broadcasts an adult contemporary format branded as ''Mountain FM''. History The station was founded in 1981 by Mountain Broadcasting, which was sold to Selkirk Communications in January 1989. Selkirk, in turn, was sold to Maclean-Hunter in September 1989, and CISQ was resold to Rogers Communications as part of the purchase. The station was relaunched with an adult contemporary format on August 29, 2003. The format later changed again in 2010. CISQ-FM has gone through a number of frequency changes. Since the launch in 1982, the station originally began broadcasting at 104.9 FM. In 1987, CISQ moved from 104.9 to 98.3 FM and to 104.7 FM the same year. Selkirk Communications was a Canadian radio and television broadcasting company, which operated from 1959 to 1989. Evolving out of Taylor, Pearson & Carson, a local broadcaster in Vancouver founded in 1934, the company grew to own 14 radio stations, six television stations (three wholly owned and three partially owned) and cable television holdings across Canada and the world. Selkirk was eventually acquired by Maclean-Hunter in 1988. When the sale was finalized the following year, Maclean-Hunter sold almost all of the company's broadcast properties to Western International Communications, WIC and Rogers Communications, retaining ownership only of Selkirk's cable holdings and one radio station. Height above average terrain (HAAT), or (less popularly) effective height above average terrain (EHAAT), is the vertical position of an antenna site is above the surrounding landscape. HAAT is used extensively in FM radio and television, as it is more important than effective radiated power (ERP) in determining the range of broadcasts (VHF and UHF in particular, as they are line of sight transmissions). For international coordination, it is officially measured in meters, even by the Federal Communications Commission in the United States, as Canada and Mexico have extensive border zones where stations can be received on either side of the international boundaries. Effective radiated power (ERP), synonymous with equivalent radiated power, is an IEEE standardized definition of directional radio frequency (RF) power, such as that emitted by a radio transmitter. It is the total power in watts that would have to be radiated by a half-wave dipole antenna to give the same radiation intensity (signal strength or power flux density in watts per square meter) as the actual source antenna at a distant receiver located in the direction of the antenna's strongest beam (main lobe). ERP measures the combination of the power emitted by the transmitter and the ability of the antenna to direct that power in a given direction. Gibsons
Gibsons is a coastal community of 4,605 in southwestern British Columbia, Canada on the Strait of Georgia. Although it is on the mainland, the Sunshine Coast is not accessible by road. Sechelt (, Shishalh language chat'lich) is a district municipality located on the lower Sunshine Coast of British Columbia.
