CHOZ-FM
CHOZ-FM is a Canadian radio station based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. Its main St. John's transmitter broadcasts at 94.7 MHz, with additional transmitters located throughout the island. The station, known as ''OZFM'', is one of the various media properties of the Stirling family; this includes local television station CJON-DT. History CHOZ launched on June 15, 1977 at 93.9 FM, soon after Geoff Stirling sold his interest in what is now CJYQ. It was originally a full-time rock station known as ''Radio OZ, The Rock Of The Rock''. It eventually transitioned into a CHR/Classic Rock hybrid fusion type format under the ''OZFM'' brand; nonetheless it kept "The Rock Of The Rock" slogan. On August 1, 1984, CHOZ was approved to move to 94.7 FM. CJON-DT
CJON-DT (channel 21), branded on-air as NTV (short for Newfoundland Television), is an English-language independent television station in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, owned by Newfoundland Broadcasting Company Ltd. The station's studios are located on Logy Bay Road in St. John's, and its transmitter is located in the city's Shea Heights section. History In 1955, Newfoundland Broadcasting Company Ltd., owner of CJON radio (now CJYQ), applied for and received a licence for the first television station in Newfoundland. Newfoundland Broadcasting was jointly owned by Geoff Stirling and Don Jamieson. The station went on the air later that year on September 6, as a CBC Television affiliate. It was Newfoundland and Labrador's first television station, and remains the province's only privately owned television station to this day. "Money for Nothing" is a song by British rock band Dire Straits, the second track on their fifth studio album, '' Brothers in Arms'' (1985). It was released as the album's second single on 28 June 1985 through Vertigo Records. The song's lyrics are written from the point of view of two working-class men watching music videos and commenting on what they see. The song features a guest appearance by Sting singing background vocals, providing both the signature falsetto introduction and backing chorus of "I want my MTV." The groundbreaking video was the first to be aired on MTV Europe when the network launched on 1 August 1987. It was Dire Straits' most commercially successful single, peaking at number 1 for three weeks on both the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and Top Rock Tracks chart and number 4 in the band's native UK.
