CHJJ-FM (90.7 MHz) is a listener-supported non-commercial station in Cobourg, Ontario. It broadcasts a contemporary Christian music format and is owned by United Christian Broadcasters of Canada (UCB). Most programming is simulcast with co-owned 102.3 CKJJ-FM Belleville. History In 2007, the station originally began operating as a rebroadcaster of CKJJ-FM Belleville, Ontario. The new Cobourg station was on 100.9 FM with 42 watts of power, using the call sign CKJJ-FM-1. On January 26, 2010, UCB was denied a licence by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to change CKJJ-FM-1's frequency to 90.7 MHz. CKJJ-FM is a Christian music radio station, broadcasting at 102.3 FM in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. The station began broadcasting in 2003 and is owned by United Christian Broadcasters Canada (UCB). Transmitters The station also previously had a rebroadcaster in Chatham, which was converted to a new originating station, CKGW, in 2007. In 2007, transmitters were added in Cobourg (100.9 MHz) and Brockville (99.9 MHz). On September 22, 2006, UCB was denied a licence for 106.5 MHz at Foymount. On January 29, 2009, UCB applied for a broadcasting licence for 1480 kHz in Newmarket, which was the former frequency occupied by CKDX up until the 1990s; it is unknown if this application was approved. Cobourg, Ontario
Cobourg ( ) is a town in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in Southern Ontario east of Toronto and east of Oshawa. It is the largest town in and seat of Northumberland County. Its nearest neighbour is Port Hope, to the west. It is located along Highway 401 (exits 472 and 474) and the former Highway 2 (now Northumberland County Road 2). United Christian Broadcasters (UCB) is an international Christian broadcasting and media group, founded by Rhema Media. Through affiliates in twenty five countries, it operates radio and television stations and publishes and broadcasts Bob Gass's daily devotionals ''The Word for You Today'' and ''Word For You'' (young adults' version). The group was started in New Zealand by Richard Berry, an evangelical Christian from Christchurch. In the early 1960s, Berry was inspired by Ecuadorian Christian short-wave radio station HCJB to set up a radio station in his garage. The Canadian Communications Foundation (CCF) is a Canadian nonprofit organization which documents the history of broadcasting in Canada, particularly radio and television. Since 1995, the organization has distributed its collection via an internet website. It also provides a history of radio and television stations, including networks, programs, broadcasters and many others. The CCF was established in 1967, by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. Brighton, Ontario
Brighton is a town in Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada, approximately east of Toronto and west of Kingston. It is traversed by both Highway 401 and the former Highway 2. In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (also known as a call name or call letters—and historically as a call signal—or abbreviated as a call) is a unique identifier for a transmitter station. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity. The use of call signs as unique identifiers dates to the landline railroad telegraph system. Because there was only one telegraph line linking all railroad stations, there needed to be a way to address each one when sending a telegram.
