CFB Moncton
Canadian Forces Base Moncton or CFB Moncton is a former Canadian Forces Base located in Moncton, New Brunswick. The centrally located city of Moncton was selected in 1940 for the site of a logistics supply base for military facilities in the Maritimes that were undergoing unprecedented expansion as a result of World War II. Moncton Garrison was constructed in an industrial area on a railway spur line north of downtown, immediately east of the sprawling Canadian National Railways Moncton Shops facility. The Moncton Garrison survived into the Cold War and was renamed Canadian Forces Base Moncton (CFB Moncton) in February 1968 following the unification of the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Navy and Royal Canadian Air Force to create the Canadian Forces. A Canadian Forces base or CFB (french: links=no, base des Forces canadiennes, BFC) is a military installation of the Canadian Armed Forces. For a facility to qualify as a Canadian Forces base, it must station one or more major units (e.g., army regiments, navy ships, air force wings). Minor installations are named Canadian Forces station or CFS (french: links=no, station des Forces canadiennes, SFC). A Canadian Forces station could host a single minor unit (e.g., an early-warning radar station). 3 Military Police Regiment (3MPR) is a unit of the Canadian Army. Like all the CF Army Military Police Regiments, while they reside within the Regular Force, the units are actually "total force" units comprising both a regular and reserve component.
