Edmonton/Cooking Lake Airport is a registered aerodrome located 15 kilometers east of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on the west shore of Cooking Lake, north of the hamlet of South Cooking Lake, Alberta, Canada. Cooking Lake Airport is the largest of two public airports located within Strathcona County and currently serves 87 per cent of the county's public aeronautical traffic. Established in 1926, it is Canada's oldest operating public airport, and Alberta's only airport with both a floatplane base, Edmonton/Cooking Lake Water Aerodrome, and a conventional runway. The airport is operated on a non-profit basis entirely by volunteers. History The first known aircraft to land at Cooking Lake was in August 1922. The Edmonton Metropolitan Region (EMR), also commonly referred to as Greater Edmonton or Metro Edmonton, is a conglomeration of municipalities centred on Alberta's provincial capital of Edmonton. The EMR's commonly known boundaries are coincident with those of the Edmonton census metropolitan area (CMA) as delineated by Statistics Canada. However, its boundaries are defined differently for Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board administrative purposes. Wardair Canada was a privately run Canadian airline, founded by Max Ward in 1952 under the name Wardair Ltd, before formally changing its name to "Wardair Canada" in 1976. Edmonton Airports, officially the Edmonton Regional Airports Authority, was formed in 1990, under the ''Regional Airports Authorities Act'' passed by the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in 1989, and is responsible for the management and operation of two airports in the Edmonton area. It is a non-profit organisation and, as per the act, has no shareholders and does not pay dividends. Lethbridge Airport , previously Lethbridge County Airport, is located south southeast of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. It is 10–15 driving minutes from downtown and has scheduled service to the city of Calgary, Alberta. The airport is classified as an airport of entry by Nav Canada and is staffed by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on a call-out basis from the Sweetgrass-Coutts Border Crossing. Noorduyn Norseman
The Noorduyn Norseman, also known as the C-64 Norseman, is a Canadian single-engine bush plane designed to operate from unimproved surfaces. Distinctive stubby landing gear protrusions from the lower fuselage make it easily recognizable. Introduced in 1935, the Norseman remained in production for almost 25 years with over 900 produced.
