Optical Disc Authoring Software
Optical disc authoring, including DVD and Blu-ray Disc authoring, is the process of assembling source material—video, audio or other data—into the proper logical volume format to then be recorded ("burned") onto an optical disc (typically a compact disc or DVD). Process To burn an optical disc, one usually first creates an optical disc image with a full file system, of a type designed for the optical disc, in temporary storage such as a file in another file system on a disk drive. One may test the image on target devices using rewriteable media such as CD-RW, DVD±RW and BD-RE. Then, one copies the image to the disc (usually write-once media for hard distribution). Most optical disc authoring utilities create a disc image and copy it to the disc in one bundled operation, so that end-users often do not know the distinction between creating and burning. However, it is useful to know because creating the disc image is a time-consuming process, while copying the imag ...

Nautilus File Manager
GNOME Files, formerly and internally known as Nautilus, is the official file manager for the GNOME desktop. Nautilus was originally developed by Eazel with many luminaries from the tech world including Andy Hertzfeld (Apple), chief architect for Nautilus. The nautilus name was a play on words, evoking the shell of a nautilus to represent an operating system shell. Nautilus replaced Midnight Commander in GNOME 1.4 (2001) and has been the default file manager from version 2.0 onwards. Nautilus was the flagship product of the now-defunct Eazel Inc and was released under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License. It is free and open-source software. History Nautilus was originally developed by Eazel and Andy Hertzfeld (founder of Eazel and a former Apple engineer) in 1999. Nautilus was first released in 2001 and development has continued ever since. The following is a brief timeline of its development history: * Version 1.0 was released on March 13, 2001, and incorporate ...

Disco (software)
Disco is a discontinued application for Mac OS X developed by Austin Sarner, Jasper Hauser and Jason Harris. The software is an optical disc authoring utility, which allows users to burn CDs and DVDs with multisession support, disc duplication, burning VIDEO_TS folders, disc spanning as well as a searchable disc index, dubbed Discography. Disco also features an interactive "3D smoke" animation which is visible when burning. This smoke responds to microphone input, as well as mouse input, causing perturbations in the smoke effect. Disco was designed as a low-cost alternative to the popular Mac OS X optical disc authoring application, Roxio Toast. Since its launch in 2007, Disco was available as shareware, requiring users to purchase a license after burning seven discs with it on a single computer. In July 2011 development was discontinued and a free license code to activate the application was published on its official website, effectively making the application available as free ...

DVD Shrink
DVD Shrink is a freeware DVD transcoder program for Microsoft Windows that uses a DVD ripper to back up DVD video. The final versions are 3.2.0.15 (English) and 3.2.0.16 (German); all other versions, such as DVD Shrink 2010, are illegitimate. DVD Shrink's purpose is, as its name implies, to reduce the amount of data stored on a DVD with minimal loss of quality, although some loss of quality is inevitable (due to the lossy MPEG-2 compression algorithm). It creates a copy of a DVD, during which the coding only allowing the DVD to be played in certain geographical areas is removed, and copy protection may also be circumvented. A stamped DVD may require more space than is available on a writeable DVD, unless shrunk. Many commercially released video DVDs are dual layer (8.5 GB); DVD Shrink can make a shrunk copy which will fit on a single-layer (4.7 GB) writeable DVD, processing the video with some loss of quality and allowing the user to discard unwanted content such as foreign-l ...

DVD Decrypter
DVD Decrypter is a deprecated software application for Microsoft Windows that can create backup disk images of the DVD-Video structure of DVDs. It can be used to make a copy of any DVD protected with Content Scrambling System (CSS). The program can also CD recorder, record images to disc — functionality that the author has now incorporated into a separate product called ImgBurn. The software also allows a copy of a region-specific DVD to be made region free. It also removes Macrovision#Content Protection, Macrovision content protection, CSS, regional lockout, region codes, and user operation prohibition. Legality in the United States As DVD Decrypter facilitates the removal of copy restrictions, certain uses may be illegal under the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act unless making copies that are covered under the Fair Use doctrine (or in some cases illegal even when making copies under fair use). In countries without similar laws there may not be any legal restri ...

Ashampoo Burning Studio
Ashampoo Burning Studio is an optical disc authoring program for Microsoft Windows, developed by Ashampoo. Current version is 23. Its main advantage is that it is easy to use. However, that is also its weakness: it does not contain many extras that power users might find useful. Ashampoo Burning Studio 22 adds support for H.265 decoding. Ashampoo Burning Studio 23 improves compatibility with Windows 11, adds extensive audiobook module, quick ripping tool, enhanced cover search and more. It is capable of creating compilations of CDs, DVDs, M-DISCs, Blu-ray discs and disc images. It also allows the creation of DVD movies from video files. ImgBurn
ImgBurn is an optical disc authoring program that allows the recording of many types of CD, DVD and Blu-ray images to recordable media (.cue files are supported as of version 2.4.0.0). Starting with version 2.0.0.0, ImgBurn can also burn files and data directly to CD or DVD. It is written in C++. It supports padding DVD-Video files so the layer break occurs on a proper cell boundary (where possible). Prior to version 2.5.1.0, the program was freeware. From version 2.5.1.0 to 2.5.7.0, Ask.com adware was included in the installer. This was replaced in version 2.5.8.0 with OpenCandy adware. Only the version of the installer distributed directly from imgburn.com contains OpenCandy; the version distributed via the official mirror sites is adware-free. No notice is present on www.imgburn.com that the checksums/hashes provided now only match the OpenCandy version of the installer; however, the author of the program has provided the expected hash values for the adware-free version on ...
