CBAF-FM-15 is a French language Canadian radio station located in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Owned and operated by the (government-owned) Canadian Broadcasting Corporation ( French: Société Radio-Canada), it broadcasts on 88.1 MHz using a directional antenna with an average effective radiated power of 33,500 watts and a peak effective radiated power of 94,200 watts ( class C). The station has an ad-free news/ talk format and is part of the Ici Radio-Canada Première network, which operates across Canada. Like all Première stations, but unlike most FM stations, it broadcasts in mono. The station signed on sometime in the late 1970s as a rebroadcaster of CBAF in Moncton. On October 3, 1983, a first radio show was produced for the Island from Moncton (''La marée de l'Île'', hosted by Maurice Arsenault). Ici Radio-Canada Première (formerly Première Chaîne) is a Canadian French-language radio network, the news and information service of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (known as Société Radio-Canada in French), the public broadcaster of Canada. It is the French counterpart of CBC Radio One, the CBC's similar English-language radio network. The service is available across Canada, although not as widely as CBC Radio One. Only the provinces of Quebec and Ontario are served by more than one ''Première'' originating station. Charlottetown
Charlottetown is the capital and largest city of the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, and the county seat of Queens County, Prince Edward Island, Queens County. Canadian Communications Foundation
The Canadian Communications Foundation (CCF) was a Canadian nonprofit organization which documented the history of broadcasting in Canada, particularly radio and television networks, programs and broadcasters. The organization was established in 1967 and announced that it would begin wrapping up its work in 2023. Since 1995, the organization distributed its collection via its website. The CCF was established in 1967 by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. Its mission: to "commemorate throughout Canada the development of electronic communications". By 2020, the foundation started to wind down as its original mission was largely accomplished. AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands.
