C. Raymond Hunt Associates (doing business as Ray Hunt Design) is an American naval architecture design firm, based in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The company specializes in the design of fiberglass sailboats and powerboats. The company was founded by C. Raymond Hunt and John Deknatel in 1966. Deknatel remains the chairman, while the current president is Winn Willard. In 2023 the company had seven employees. Hunt and his firm are noted as being the only designers of that period that achieved international success in both powerboat and sailboat design. Founder C. Raymond Hunt was born in 1908 and completed his formal education only as far as two years at Phillips Andover prep school. He had no formal training in naval architecture. The Hunt family were members of the Duxbury Yacht Club (DYC) in Duxbury, Massachusetts in the 1920s. The International 110 is an American sailboat that was designed by C. While most boat designs have numerical designations that reflect their length overall, waterline length, displacement or some other dimensional parameter, the 110 class was named for the sail number that the prototype carried. The company was founded in 1962 and specialized in the design and manufacture of fiberglass sailboats. Ranger Yachts was an American boat builder founded by Jack Jensen. The company specialized in the design and manufacture of sailboats for the North American market. History The company was formed by Jensen in 1970 to complement his existing west coast Cal Boats business. Jensen had already started Jensen Marine and had an exclusive boat design contract with William Lapworth. Jensen started Ranger Yachts both to serve the east coast American market and also to allow him to contract Gary Mull to design the Ranger boats. Ranger boats were originally built in Costa Mesa, California, but the operation was moved to Tampa, Florida in 1981 to better serve the market. The company was acquired by American conglomerate Bangor Punta in 1973 and became part of Lear Siegler when it bought out Bangor Punta in 1984. O'Day Corp. was a America sailboat builder, located in Fall River, Massachusetts. History It was founded in 1958 by George O'Day, the American Olympic and World champion sailor. George O'Day sold the company to Bangor Punta Corporation in 1966. Bangor Punta also acquired other boat builders around that time including Cal Yachts and Starcraft Marine. Bangor Punta was later acquired by Lear Siegler. O'Day went out of business in 1989. Boats O'Day co-designed and built the Day Sailer which was inducted into the American Sailboat Hall of Fame in 2003. More than 12,000 Day Sailers have been sold. Boston Whaler
Boston Whaler is an American boat manufacturer. It is a subsidiary of the Brunswick Boat Group, a division of the Brunswick Corporation. Boston Whalers were originally produced in Massachusetts, hence the name, but today are manufactured in Edgewater, Florida. History Richard "Dick" Fisher graduated from Harvard University in 1936. He ran a company building small, lightweight boats out of balsa wood. He designed a rowboat and got the materials to build it, but he never completed it. In the 1950s, polyurethane foam, a stiff, lightweight, buoyant material, was invented. Fisher imagined it as a replacement for the lightweight balsa used in small boat construction, and in 1954 he constructed a small sailing dinghy filled with the foam, with a design similar to the Sunfish.
