C. C. Torbert Jr.
Clement Clay "Bo" Torbert Jr. (August 31, 1929 – June 2, 2018) was an American jurist. He was the twenty-fifth Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court from 1977 through 1989. Torbert was born in Lee County, Alabama, the son of Clement Clay Torbert Jr. and Lynda H. Meadows, and the grandson of Clement Clay Torbert Sr. and Aylmerine Spearman Floyd. Clement Clay Sr. was from Society Hill, where his grandfather, James Torbert, served as the first postmaster. Torbert attended the United States Naval Academy and Auburn University, receiving a bachelor's degree from Auburn in 1951. He attended law school at the University of Maryland and the University of Alabama. After entering private law practice in Opelika in 1954, he was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 1958. In 1966 and 1974, he was elected to the Alabama Senate. Alabama Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of Alabama is the highest court in the state of Alabama. The court consists of a chief justice and eight associate justices. Each justice is elected in partisan elections for staggered six-year terms. The Supreme Court is housed in the Heflin-Torbert Judicial Building in downtown Montgomery, Alabama. The Governor of Alabama may fill vacancies when they occur for the remainder of unexpired terms. The current partisan line-up for the court is all Republican. There is no specific limitation on the number of terms to which a member may be elected. However, the state constitution under Amendment 328, adopted in 1973, prohibits any member from seeking election once they have attained the age of seventy years. United States Naval Academy Alumni
The United States Naval Academy (USNA) is an undergraduate college in Annapolis, Maryland with the mission of educating and commissioning officers for the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The Academy was founded in 1845 and graduated its first class in 1846. The Academy is often referred to as Annapolis, while sports media refer to the Academy as "Navy" and the students as "Midshipmen"; this usage is officially endorsed.
