Maduranthakam C. Arumugam, popularly known as Madhuranthagathar, was an Indian politician and former Member of the Legislative Assembly (India), Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu. He was the founder member of Dravida Munetra Kazhagam. He was a member of the General Committee with C. N. Annadurai, C.N.Annadurai in the Chengai Anna District. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly from Maduranthakam (State Assembly Constituency), Maduranthakam constituency as a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in 1971, 1977, and 1984. He was also Chingleput District (Madras Presidency), Chengalpattu District secretary for Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam from 1971 to 1993. A Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) is a representative elected by the voters of an electoral district (constituency) to the legislature of State government in the Indian system of government. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (; DMK) is a political party based in the state of Tamil Nadu where it is currently the ruling party having a comfortable majority without coalition support and the union territory of Puducherry where it is currently the main opposition. Chingleput District (Madras Presidency)
Chingleput district was a district in the Madras Presidency of British India. It covered the area of the present-day districts of Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur and parts of Chennai city. It was sub-divided into six taluks with a total area of . The first capital was the town of Karunguzhi, with an interruption between 1825 and 1835, administrative headquarters were transferred to Kanchipuram.
