Club Social y Deportivo Municipal, also known as Municipal or ''Los Rojos'' (the Reds), is a Guatemalan football club based in Guatemala City. They compete in the Liga Nacional, the top tier of Guatemalan football, and play their home matches at the Estadio El Trébol. As of 2015, they are the team that has remained the most years at the top level in Guatemala, having done so since the inception of the national league in 1942. They have won the domestic league 31 times; most recently winning the 2019 ''Apertura'' tournament. They won the CONCACAF Champions' Cup in 1974. Municipal is the most winner and popular football club in Guatemala and are traditional arch-rivals of Comunicaciones, who is also based in Guatemala City. Copa Interamericana
The Copa Interamericana ( en, Interamerican Cup) was an annual club football competition contested between a representative from North America (CONCACAF) and South America (CONMEBOL). Established in 1969, it was discontinued in 1998 after CONCACAF clubs, particularly those from Mexico, began participating in CONMEBOL competitions. The competition was intended to be contested between the winners of the North American CONCACAF Champions Cup and the South American Copa Libertadores tournaments, although the participants varied at times. The competition was usually contested over a two legged tie, with a playoff or penalty kicks if necessary. However, it was common for several consecutive editions to go unheld. Julio César Anderson
Julio César Anderson Quiroga (27 November 1947 – 7 August 2021) was a Guatemalan professional football striker who played the majority of his career for C.S.D. Municipal, in the Liga Mayor A, the top tier in the country. He was on the squad when it won the 1974 CONCACAF Champions' Cup. When he retired, he was the club's all-time leading goalscorer, and was the top scorer of the Liga Nacional three straight years. He was briefly in Mexico's top league, the Primera División. He also was a member of the Guatemala national team, he played at the 1976 Olympic Games and in two World Cup qualifying campaigns. Benjamín Monterroso
Benjamín Eduardo ("''Mincho''") Monterroso Díaz (born January 1, 1952) is a Guatemalan football coach and former midfielder who spent the majority of his playing career at the local club Municipal, and is also a former player and current manager of the Guatemalan women's national team. Playing career Monterroso played for Municipal from 1970 to 1979, being part of the squad that won the IV CONCACAF Champions' Cup in 1974. He also played in the only Copa Interamericana final played by a Guatemalan team. After a 1–1 aggregate against Argentina's Independiente, Monterroso missed during the penalty shootout.
