''C.O.B.R.A.'' is the first single released from Marie-Mai's fourth album '' Miroir''. It was released as digital download on 14 August 2012. The song was written by Fred St-Gelais and Marie-Mai. In an interview, Marie-Mai explained the song's inspiration: “C.O.B.R.A. is a rallying cry, an anthem to those who do not want to merge in the crowd, told Marie-Mai. Fred (St-Gelais, director) and I, we wanted to write a song that would find all its meaning on stage, during a show, with a contagious rhythm...Let yourself get bewitched by the Cobra!”. Music video The video was filmed by director Jonathan Desbiens and produced by Patrick Chevrier and Outan Médias. The video premiered on 5 September 2012. ''Miroir'' is the fourth studio album by Canadian singer Marie-Mai. The album was produced by Fred St-Gelais. Most of the French titles were recorded in the spring of 2012, with the exception of ''Sans Cri Ni Haine'', which was released as a promotional single in France in February 2012. 3 of the songs (''Young & Wired'', ''Riptide'' and ''Heart Attack''), were part of an English-language EP that was recorded in late 2010 but never released. Some French lines were added into "Heart Attack" during 2012 and despite Marie-Mai not being completely pleased with the results, it was included in the final track list as a special request from her mother, who loved the song. Marie-Mai (born Marie-Mai Bouchard on July 7, 1984, in Varennes, Quebec) is a Canadian singer from Quebec. She was initially known as one of the finalists of the first season of the Quebec reality show ''Star Académie''. Background Marie-Mai was born to an actor father Marie-Mai began her interest in music in her early years when practicing piano lessons and also participated in musical theatre. Shortly, she began singing and her grandmother noticed her talent. In the following years, she would help Marie-Mai improve her singing abilities even further. Fred St-Gelais (born Frédéric St-Gelais, on September 2, 1974 in Chibougamau, Quebec) is a Canadian songwriter, television music composer, record producer and multi-instrumentalist, currently living in Montreal, Quebec. Biography Early work Fred St-Gelais has been immersed in the music industry since he was a teenager. After studying music for several years, both privately where he grew up in the Saguenay/Lac-St-Jean region of the Quebec province, and at the Lionel-Groulx College in the Montreal region, he began his career playing guitar, bass and keyboards, as well as singing in clubs around Quebec in the late 1980s and early 1990s with various local Top 40, rock and blues acts. He decided to build his own studio, where he could work on and fine-tune his production, arranging, and songwriting skills. The Canadian Hot 100 is a music industry record chart in Canada for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine.
