C.L.G. Naomh Columba
CLG Naomh Columba is a Gaelic football only GAA club based in Gleann Cholm Cille, County Donegal, Ireland. The club fields both men's and ladies' teams from underage as far as senior level. They enjoy an intense rivalry with neighbours, Cill Chartha, although the rivalry has subdued somewhat in the last number of years as the clubs have played in different divisions. History Naomh Columba, in their current existence were founded in 1964, although football was played in the parish for decades before this and a Junior club existed since 1944. They have won the Donegal Senior Football Championship twice, in 1978 and 1990. Michael Oliver McIntyre captained the team to the 1978 title. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. Donegal County Football Team
The Donegal county football team ( ) represents Donegal in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Donegal GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the three major annual inter-county competitions; the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Ulster Senior Football Championship and the National Football League. Anthony Molloy (Gaelic Footballer)
Anthony Molloy (born 28 May 1962) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for CLG Ard an Rátha, Ard an Rátha and the Donegal county football team, Donegal county team. He Captain (Gaelic games), captained Donegal to the Sam Maguire Cup in 1992 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final, 1992. Early life and family Molloy is from Leamagowra. This is a small townland on the way over Glengesh Pass on the way towards Glencolmcille. He was born on 28 May 1962. In 1992, he was living at 61 Conlin Road in Killybegs. He is the uncle of C. J. Noel McGinley
Noel McGinley is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for Naomh Columba and the Donegal county team. He played at the back. McGinley played in the final of the 1998 Ulster Senior Football Championship. Late in that game, McGinley was involved in the game's crucial moment when Geoffrey McGonagle committed an apparent foul on him (which was ignored) and Joe Brolly scored the decisive goal. He started Mickey Moran's first game in charge of Donegal, a league win at home to Offaly in October 2000. He also played in the 2002 Ulster SFC final but never won the competition as a player. The GAA Football Under-20 All-Ireland Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the EirGrid GAA Football Under-20 All-Ireland Championship) is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition for male players between the ages of 17 and 20 in Ireland. The ''Donegal Democrat'' is a twice-weekly local newspaper, covering County Donegal, Ireland. The paper was traditionally based in the town of Ballyshannon in the south of the county, but now has offices in Donegal Town (southern edition) and Letterkenny (northern edition). The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). Ulster Senior Football Championship
The Ulster Senior Football Championship is an inter-county competition for Gaelic football teams in the province of Ulster. It is organised by the Ulster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and begins in early May. The final is usually played on the third Sunday in July. All nine Ulster counties participate. It is regarded as hardest to win of the four provincial football championships. At a referee conference in January 2015, David Coldrick said about officiating in the competition: "Ulster makes or breaks you. It can be a graveyard. The games are different. Aaron Doherty is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for Naomh Columba and the Donegal county team. He attended Coláiste na Carraige and Dublin Institute of Technology. He is from near Teelin, in the parish of Gleann Cholm Cille. He has also played association football for St Catherine's and Letterbarrow Celtic. Doherty played football at minor level for Donegal. He was first called into the Donegal senior team in 2019, following the departure of other players. He won an Ulster Senior Football Championship medal shortly afterwards.
