Beyoğluspor Kulübü, also known as the Beyoğlu Sports Club, or by its historic Greek name of Pera Sports Club ( el, ΑΣΠ; Αθλητικός Σύλλογος Πέραν), or simply Pera Club, is an amateur sports club based in Istanbul, Turkey. It fields teams in volleyball, basketball and football. History Since the second half of the 19th century the Greek community of Constantinople founded several sports clubs and organized sports activities such as the ''Pan-Constantinopolitan Games''. The club claims it was founded in Pera in 1877, by three local Greek intellectuals, K.D. Kostarakis, I.A. Zervoudakis and A.K. Stefopoulos, as Clio Sports Club. In 1884, it was renamed to Hermès Sport Club, in which the football department was founded in 1914. With the establishment of the Republic of Turkey in 1923 it was briefly renamed Pera Sports Club and, later that year, was formally registered as "Beyoğlu Spor Kulübü". Beyoğlu SK
Beyoğlu (, ota, بكاوغلی, script=Arab) is a district on the European side of İstanbul, Turkey, separated from the old city (historic peninsula of Constantinople) by the Golden Horn. It was known as the region of Pera (Πέρα, meaning "Beyond" in Greek) surrounding the ancient coastal town Galata which faced Constantinople across the Horn. Kurtuluş S
Kurtuluş is a neighbourhood of the Şişli district of Istanbul that was originally called ''Tatavla,'' meaning 'stables' in Greek ( el, Ταταύλα). The modern Turkish name means "liberation", "salvation", "independence" or "deliverance". On 13 April 1929, six years after the Republic of Turkey was founded, a fire swept through the neighbourhood and largely destroyed it, with 207 houses going up in flames. The name was changed to Kurtuluş to mark the rebuilding of the area. Once a predominantly Greek Orthodox neighbourhood, its population today mostly consists of Turks who moved there after the Republic of Turkey was founded in 1923. Alekos Sofianidis
Alekos Sofianidis ( el, Αλέκος Σοφιανίδης, tr, Aleko Sofyanidis; 3 August 1937 – 6 July 2010) was a Turkish-born Greek professional footballer who played as a left back and a later manager. Club career Born in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul Province, Sofianidis began his career at Beyoğluspor, based in the city of Istanbul. Fast and dynamic, he played on the left wing of the football team's attack and attracted the interest of the big football teams of Istanbul. He was transferred to Beşiktaş in 1948 and in the period 1950 he won with the team the then so-called Istanbul league. Koço Kasapoğlu ( el, Κώστας Κασάπογλου; 15 November 1935 – 5 April 2016), also known as Yorgo or Kostas Kasapoğlu, was a Greek-Turkish Association football, football player and manager. He was also nicknamed penaltı kralı (in English Penalty King) because he scored 500 of the 501 penalties he took in his career and is considered the best penalty taker in Turkish football history. Themistoklis "Themos" Asderis ( el, Θέμος Ασδέρης; 1900 – 22 March 1975) was a Greek footballer who played as a defender in the 1920's and a later manager. A pioneer of Greek football and one of the main founders of Pera Club and AEK Athens. Kostas Negrepontis ( el, Κώστας Νεγρεπόντης; 31 October 1897 – 19 February 1973) was a Greek footballer who played as a center forward in the 1920's and 1930's and a later manager. Şükrü Gülesin (September 14, 1922 – July 10, 1977) was a Turkish football player and sports journalist.
