The Belgian Elite League is the top flight men's competition for rugby union in Belgium. Teams As of the 2018/19 season The Elite League has eight teams: * ASUB Waterloo * Boitsfort RC * Kituro Schaarbeek RC * RC Frameries * Dendermonde Rugby Club * RC Soignies * Roc Ottignies * RC La Hulpe The 2018/19 Champions were RC La Hulpe. In 2018 RFC Liégeois was relegated having finished bottom of the Elite League and RC Frameries were promoted from the 2nd Division. Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. One of the two codes of rugby football, it is based on running with the ball in hand. In its most common form, a game is played between two teams of 15 players each, using an oval-shaped ball on a rectangular field called a pitch. The field has H-shaped goalposts at both ends. Dendermondse Rugby Club
Dendermonde RC is a Belgian rugby union club currently competing in Belgian Elite League. The club is based in Dendermonde in the Flemish Province of East Flanders. They are currently the only team from Flanders in the top flight. The official colours of the club are green and yellow. History The club was founded in 1962 under the name of SOS Rugby Sint-Gillis. The club's first game was against ASUB, resulting in a 13-20 loss. Developing a strong youth following, the turn of the 1990s saw the club push on with the construction of its own complex in the Van Langenhovestraat region. and won its first Belgian League Title in 2012 having previously won the 2nd Division title twice in 1970 and 2010.
