Basketball In The Czech Republic
Basketball in the Czech Republic is organized by Czech Basketball Federation ( ČBF) ( cs, Česká basketbalová federace). The top professional Czech basketball league is Mattoni National Basketball League ( cs, Mattoni Národní basketbalová liga). Participating in the competition are 12 clubs and the season lasts 9 months. The current champion is ERA Basketball Nymburk (season 2021/2022). The Czech basketball champion participates in FIBA Europe EuroCup, against top teams in FIBA Europe EuroCup Challenge. The top women's Czech basketball league is Women's Basketball League ( cs, Ženská basketbalová liga). There are 10 teams participating in this competition. Current women's champion is ZVVZ USK Praha (season 2021/2022). Two best teams participate in FIBA Europe Euroleague Women. Gambrinus Brno has won this competition in 2006. USK Praha (official name: ZVVZ USK Praha) is a Czech women's basketball club that was founded in 1953 in the city of Prague. USK Praha plays in the Czech League, the highest competition in the Czech Republic. It is a 21-times national champion. Czech Republic Women's National Basketball Team
The Czech Republic women's national basketball team represents the Czech Republic in international women's basketball. Their biggest success so far is the gold medal at the EuroBasket 2005. The Czech Republic men's national basketball team ( cs, Česká basketbalová reprezentace) represents the Czech Republic in international basketball. The team is controlled by the Czech Basketball Federation (ČBF). The Czech Republic is the successor to the Czechoslovakia national team after the Czech Republic split from Czechoslovakia, due to the dissolution of the unified state in 1993. The Czech Republic national team made their debut in international competition in a qualifier for the EuroBasket in 1993. The team has qualified for the tournament six times overall. EuroCup Women
The EuroCup Women (officially ''FIBA EuroCup Women'') is the second-level basketball competition with teams from associate members of FIBA Europe. It succeeds the Ronchetti Cup. Basketbalový Klub Brno, currently officially BK Žabiny Brno, previously also known as Imos Brno for sponsorship reasons, is a Czech women's basketball club from Brno established in 1993, not to be mistaken with male club BC VS Brno. It has been the most successful team in the Czech league following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, dominating the championship between 1996 and 2008. The FIBA EuroCup Challenge was the 4th-tier level (it was the 3rd-tier level during the inaugural 2002–03 season), transnational professional continental club basketball competition in Europe.
