BRD Timișoara Challenger
The BRD Timișoara Challenger is a tennis tournament held in Timișoara, Romania since 2004. The event is part of the ATP Challenger Tour The ATP Challenger Tour, known until the end of 2008 as the ATP Challenger Series, is a series of international men's professional tennis tournaments. The Challenger Tour events are the second-highest tier of tennis competition, behind the ATP T ... and is played on outdoor clay courts. For the last three years the tournament was not held due to financial reasons. In early 2012 it was announced that BRD – Groupe Société Générale will sponsor the tournament and thus will rename it to BRD Timișoara Challenger. Victor Hănescu (born 21 July 1981) is a former Romanian tennis player. His career-high singles ranking was world no. 26. Professional career Hănescu attained a career-high singles ranking of No. 26 on 6 July 2009. In a Davis Cup match against the United States, he suffered a severe rib injury, and a subsequent injury sidelined him further in May 2006. Ionuţ "Ion" Moldovan (born 17 January 1978) is a former professional tennis player from Romania. He was Vice-President of the Romanian Tennis Federation from 2013 to 2015. Career Moldovan had his best results on the ATP Tour at the 1996 Open Romania, where he was a singles quarter-finalist and in 2005, when he made the semi-finals of the same event, this time in the doubles, with countryman Gabriel Moraru. He played one Masters Series tournament, the 2000 Stuttgart Masters. Horia Tecău (; born January 19, 1985) is a Romanian former professional tennis player who specialised in doubles. He is a three-time Grand Slam champion, having won the 2015 Wimbledon Championships and 2017 US Open alongside Jean-Julien Rojer in men's doubles, as well as the 2012 Australian Open with Bethanie Mattek-Sands in mixed doubles. Florin Mergea (; born 26 January 1985) is a Romanian tennis player and a doubles specialist. He has reached the final of the ATP World Tour Finals in 2015 and won an ATP Masters title at the Mutua Madrid Open earlier that year. Rubén RamÃrez Hidalgo (; born 6 January 1978 in Alicante, Spain) is a former professional male tennis player from Spain. His career-high ATP singles ranking is world No. 50, achieved on 2 October 2006.
