Architectural Photographers
Early architectural photographers include Roger Fenton, Francis Frith (Middle East and Britain), Samuel Bourne, Inclined Studio (India) and Albert Levy (United States and Europe). They paved the way for the modern speciality of architectural photography. Later architectural photography had practitioners such as Ezra Stoller and Julius Shulman. Stoller worked mainly on the east coast of America, having graduated with a degree in architecture in the 1930s. Shulman, who was based on the West Coast, became an architectural photographer after some images that he had taken of one of Richard Neutra's houses in California made their way onto the architect's desk. Jack Boucher
Jack E. Boucher (September 4, 1931 – September 2, 2012) was an American photographer for the National Park Service for more than 40 years beginning in 1958. He served as the Chief Photographer for the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS). In 1966 he left the Park Service for two years to supervise New Jersey's State Historic Preservation program, including the State's roadside marker program, 18 historic museum houses, several lighthouses, and two historic villages. Offered his old job back by the Park Service/HABS in 1970, he left New Jersey to return to NPS/HABS and the highly specialized job of large format photographic architectural documentation. His work took him to 49 States, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. April 2008 was the fiftieth anniversary of his employment with the National Park Service's "HABS" program. Andrew Prokos
Andrew Prokos (born 1971) is an American architectural and fine-art photographer. Early life Prokos was born to Greek parents who immigrated to the United States after World War II, settling in Chicago. At an early age Prokos's family moved to Florida, where he grew up and attended the University of Florida, where he graduated with a degree in Political Science. He first started taking photographs after moving to New York City at the age of 20. Work During the mid-1990s Prokos spent two years living in Italy and Greece and traveling through Europe and Turkey. Prokos returned to New York City in 1996, and began working in interactive advertising. Prokos turned to photography full-time in 2002, and received commissions from a variety of clients, including architects, property developers, interior designers, ad agencies, and corporate clients. Lucia Moholy
Lucia Moholy (née Schulz; 18 January 1894 — 17 May 1989) was a photographer and publications editor. Her photos documented the architecture and products of the Bauhaus, and introduced their ideas to a post-World War II audience. However Moholy was seldom credited for her work, which was often attributed to her husband László Moholy-Nagy or to Walter Gropius. Early years Lucy Schulz grew up in a nonpracticing Jewish family in a "German-speaking enclave" of Prague, where her father had his law practice, in the Austrian part of Austria-Hungary. Her own diaries from that period, include a drawing from 10 May 1907 of gifts her father brought back to Lucy, her brother Franz, mother and grandmother from his trips. Duccio Malagamba (born 1960) is an Italian Architectural photographers, architectural photographer. Life and work Malagamba was born in La Spezia, Italy. Eric de Maré (1910 – 2002) was a British photographer and author, described as one of the greatest British architectural photographers. Biography Eric de Maré was born in London on the 10 September 1910, the second son of Swedish parents, Bror Edward August de Maré (a timber broker) and his wife Ellen Ingrid (née Tellander). His younger brother was the psychotherapist Patrick de Maré. He was educated at St Paul's School in London before becoming a student of the Architectural Association in 1928. Following graduation in 1933, he went to Scandinavia to travel and work. A number of his later publications focus on Sweden. He was a supporter of the Social Credit movement. Bedford Lemere & Co was a firm of British architectural photographers active in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. It was founded by Bedford Lemere (1839–1911) in 1861, with his son Henry (Harry) Bedford Lemere (1865–1944) joining the firm in 1881. Julien Lanoo (born 1985) is a Belgian photographer. He documents the built environment and his works are best known for his "humanistic" approach, where people and broader architectural contexts are at the centre of attention. Candida Höfer
Candida Höfer (born 4 February 1944) is a German photographer. She is a former student of Bernd and Hilla Becher. Like other Becher students, Höfer's work is known for technical perfection and a strictly conceptual approach. From 1997 to 2000, she taught as professor at the Hochschule für Gestaltung, Karlsruhe. Höfer is the recipient of the 2018 Outstanding Contribution to Photography award, as part of the Sony World Photography awards. She is based in Cologne. Early life and education Candida Höfer was born in 1944 in Eberswalde, Province of Brandenburg. Höfer is a daughter of the German journalist Werner Höfer. He was notable for his architectural photography, beginning with his work for Le Corbusier.
