All American Hockey League (2008–2011)
The All American Hockey League (AAHL) was a lower level professional ice hockey league with teams in the Midwestern United States. The league suspended operations for the 2011–12 season and subsequently folded. League history Inaugural season (2008–09) The All American Hockey League was formed in 2008 as the All American Hockey Association when the Battle Creek Revolution and South Shore Shooters (later the Chi-Town Shooters) of the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League banded together with the Evansville IceMen and Motor City Gamblers (later the Detroit Dragons) of the Midwest Hockey League. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. International Hockey League (2007-)
The United Hockey League (UHL), originally known as the Colonial Hockey League from 1991 to 1997 and last known as the International Hockey League from 2007 to 2010, was a low-level minor professional ice hockey league, with teams in the United States and Canada. The league was headquartered in Rochester, Michigan, and, in its last year, consisted of seven teams. It folded in 2010, with most of its teams joining the Central Hockey League. ECHL
The ECHL (formerly the East Coast Hockey League) is a mid-level professional ice hockey league based in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, with teams scattered across the United States and Canada. It is a tier below the American Hockey League (AHL). The ECHL and the AHL are the only minor leagues recognized by the collective bargaining agreement between the National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players' Association, meaning any player signed to an entry-level NHL contract and designated for assignment must report to a club in either the ECHL or the AHL. Additionally, the league's players are represented by the Professional Hockey Players' Association in negotiations with the ECHL itself. The Indiana Blizzard was a professional ice hockey team based in Dyer, Indiana. The team was a member of the All American Hockey League and began its inaugural season in October 2009 as the Detroit Hitmen. The Blizzard played their home games at the Midwest Training & Ice Center Arena. The Troy Bruins were a professional ice hockey team which played in the All American Hockey League. The team played their home games at Hobart Arena in downtown Troy, Ohio. History The organization was formed in 2009 as an expansion franchise in the Northern Junior Hockey League for the 2009–10 season. On May 21, 2009, the team was officially announced as the Troy Bruins. While not being affiliated with the original Troy Bruins from the International Hockey League of the 1950s, the Bruins pay homage to the Miami Valley's first hockey team and the area's rich hockey history. The organization would leave the NJHL after one season and pursued creating a minor league professional team instead. Lapeer Loggers
The Lapeer Loggers were a professional ice hockey team based in Lapeer, Michigan. The Loggers played the 2010–11 season as a member of the All American Hockey League and played their home games at Polar Palace Arena in Lapeer, MI. Team history The Loggers were approved for membership in the AAHL in August 2010. On January 3, the AAHL took over the operations of the Lapeer Loggers and very soon thereafter, due to league wide difficulties, both the Queen City Storm and the Troy Bruins folded. The AAHL assimilated players from Lapeer, Queen City, and Troy, into the newly christened Michigan Moose. After just a few games, the AAHL called an early end to the regular season and played the AAHL's final playoffs (won by the Battle Creek Revolution) before disbanding the league.
