2024 French Open
The 2024 French Open was a Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slam tennis tournament that was played on outdoor clay courts. It was held at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France, from 26 May to 9 June 2024, comprising singles, doubles and mixed doubles play. Junior and wheelchair tournaments were also scheduled. It was the 123rd edition of the French Open and the second Grand Slam event of 2024. The main singles draws included 16 qualifiers for men and 16 for women out of 128 players respectively. The 2024 French Open – Men's singles, men's singles title was won by Carlos Alcaraz, who defeated Alexander Zverev in the final to lift his third Grand Slam title. Carlos Alcaraz defeated Alexander Zverev in the final, 6–3, 2–6, 5–7, 6–1, 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2024 French Open. Clay Court
A clay court is one of the types of tennis court on which the sport of tennis, originally known as "lawn tennis", is played. Clay courts are made of crushed stone, brick, shale, or other unbound mineral aggregate depending on the tournament. The French Open uses clay courts, the only Grand Slam tournament to do so. Clay courts are more common in Continental Europe and Latin America than in North America, Asia-Pacific or Britain. Two main types exist: red clay, the more common variety, and green clay, also known as "rubico", which is a harder surface. Aniek van Koot (born 15 August 1990) is a Dutch wheelchair tennis player who is a former world No. 1 in both singles and doubles. Van Koot is a 23-time Grand Slam champion, having won the 2013 Australian Open, 2013 US Open and 2019 Wimbledon Championships in wheelchair singles. Gordon "Gio" Reid (born 2 October 1991) is a British professional wheelchair tennis player. He is ranked world No. 4 in singles and world No. 1 in doubles. He is a Paralympic gold, silver, and bronze medalist, two-time Grand Slam singles champion, and nineteen-time Grand Slam doubles champion. He has competed for Great Britain at the Summer Paralympics when tennis made its first appearance at Beijing 2008.
