Ghana National Football Team
The Ghana national football team represents Ghana in men's international football, doing it since 1957. The team consists of twenty players including the technical team. The team is nicknamed the Black Stars after the Black Star of Africa in the flag of Ghana. It is governed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) the governing body for football in Ghana and the oldest football association in Africa (founded in 1920). Prior to 1957, the team played as the Gold Coast. The team is a member of both FIFA and CAF. Ghana qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 2006. Anowa
''Anowa'' is a play by Ghanaian writer Ama Ata Aidoo that was published in 1970, after Aidoo returned from Stanford University in California to teach at the University of Cape Coast. ''Anowa'' is based on a traditional Ghanaian tale of a daughter who rejects suitors proposed by her parents Osam and Badua, and marries a stranger who ultimately is revealed as the Devil in disguise. The play is set in the 1870s on the Gold Coast, and tells the story of the heroine Anowa's failed marriage to the slave trader Kofi Ako. The play has a unique trait whereby a couple, an old man and an old woman, take on the role of the Chorus. They present themselves at crucial points in the play and give their own views on the events in the play. Anowa's attitude of being a modern independent woman angers Kofi Ako. The Dilemma Of A Ghost
''The Dilemma of a Ghost'' is a play by Ghanaian writer Ama Ata Aidoo that was first performed in March 1964 for three nights at the Open Air Theatre of the University of Ghana, Legon, where the author was in her final year of studies, a few months away from graduating. The play was published by Longman the following year, making Aidoo the first published African woman dramatist. It was subsequently published in an edition with Aidoo's second play, '' Anowa'' (1970), both works dealing with the differences between Western culture and African traditions. A domestic satire, ''The Dilemma of a Ghost'' concerns a Ghanaian student returning from education abroad with his Black American wife, and her struggle coming to terms with her cultural past in her new African home. Ama Ata Aidoo
Ama Ata Aidoo, ''née'' Christina Ama Aidoo (born 23 March 1942) is a Ghanaian author, poet, playwright and academic. She was the Minister of Education under the Jerry Rawlings administration. In 2000, she established the Mbaasem Foundation to promote and support the work of African women writers. Early life Aidoo was born on 23 March 1942 in Saltpond in the Central Region of Ghana. Some sources including Megan Behrent, Brown University, and ''Africa Who's Who'' have stated that she was born on 31 March 1940. She had a twin brother, Kwame Ata. She was raised in a Fante royal household, the daughter of Nana Yaw Fama, chief of Abeadzi Kyiakor, and Maame Abasema. Akwaboah Snr
Kwadwo Akwaboah (died 16 May 2023), popularly known as Akwaboah Senior (Snr.), was a Ghanaian singer-songwriter and record producer from Mampong Beposo. He was known for the popular song ''Awerɛkyekyerɛ'', ''Hini Me'' and many others. He was the father of the renowned Ghanaian musician Akwaboah Jnr. Life and career Akwaboah Snr. was born in Mampong Beposo. Akwaboah Snr. was a keyboardist who played for a lot of local and international bands like Oheneba Ntim Barima Band and others. Akwaboah Snr. was also a talented guitarist who often played with some of Ghana's great musicians, including the Rex Owusu Marfo and the late C.K. Mann. Death Akwaboah Snr. was diagnosed with glaucoma for some years, and died on 16 May 2023 at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, Ashanti Region of Ghana. Letitia Obeng
Letitia Eva Takyibea Obeng (10 January 1925 – 23 March 2023) was the first Ghanaian woman to obtain a degree in zoology and the first to be awarded a doctorate. She is described as "the grandmother of female scientists in Ghana". Early life and education Letitia Obeng was born at Anum in the Eastern Region (Ghana), Eastern Region on 10 January 1925. She attended a primary school in Abetifi, Kwahu and a middle school in Kyebi. Between 1939 and 1946, she had her secondary school education at Achimota College. While at school she took the London University International Examination to continue her education, courtesy of a government scholarship at the University of Birmingham (1948–1952), where she was the only African female student on the Edgbaston campus. She graduated from the university with a degree in Zoology. The Parliament of Ghana is the legislative body of the Government of Ghana. History Legislative representation in Ghana dates back to 1850, when the country was a British colony known as Gold Coast. The body, called the Legislative Council, was purely advisory as the Governor exercised all legislative and executive powers. Reforms were introduced in 1916 and 1925, although the governor's power remained extensive. In 1946, a new constitution was introduced that allowed for an unofficial member of the Legislative Council to become its president while the governor ceased to be the ''ex officio'' president of the body. The Minister for Finance and Economic Planning is the Ghanaian government official responsible for the Ministry of Finance of Ghana. The Minister for Finance since January 2017 has been Ken Ofori-Atta, co-founder and former Chairman of the Databank Group (an investment banking firm) in Ghana. He was appointed by President Akufo-Addo following the Ghanaian general election in December 2016. Anthony Akoto Osei is a Ghanaian banker and politician. Osei was in the cabinet of President John Agyekum Kufuor as Minister of State for Finance and Economic Planning. He was a member of Parliament for the electoral district of Old Tafo in the Ashanti region. Early life and education Osei was born in Sunyani, the capital of Bono Region then Brong Ahafo Region on 18 April 1953. He had his secondary level education at Achimota School and Opoku Ware Senior High School. He furthered at Oberlin College in Ohio where he obtained a bachelor's degree in economics. Football At The 1964 Summer Olympics
The football competition at the 1964 Summer Olympics started on 11 October and ended on 23 October. Only one event, the men's tournament, was contested. The tournament features 14 men's national teams from six continental confederations. The 14 teams are drawn into two groups of four and two groups of three and each group plays a round-robin tournament. At the end of the group stage, the top two teams advanced to the knockout stage, beginning with the quarter-finals and culminating with the gold medal match at the Olympic Stadium on 23 October 1964. There was also three consolation matches played by losing quarter-finalists. The winner of these matches placed fifth in the tournament. Qualification Regional qualifying tournaments were held.
