Marko Račič
Marko Račič (25 April 1920 – 27 May 2022) was a Slovenian athlete who participated in the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. Representing Yugoslavia, he advanced to the semi-finals of the men's 400 metre competition, but did not make it beyond the opening round of the men's 4 × 400 metres relay. A local and state sprinting record holder, Račič competed internationally for many years and made appearances at the 1946 and 1950 European Athletics Championships prior to taking up personal training and coaching in 1953. He served as an international athletics judge and an amateur sports administrator who was on committees for several international sporting events in Yugoslavia, including the 1984 Winter Olympics. Janez Matičič
Janez Matičič (3 June 1926 – 18 April 2022) was a Slovenian composer and pianist. He was a regular member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts starting in 2007. Matičič was born in Ljubljana, and was the brother of writer Nada Matičič. He graduated in composition from the Ljubljana Academy of Music in 1950 and conducting in 1951. From 1959 to 1961 he studied in Paris with Nadia Boulanger. Then, from 1959 to 1975, he collaborated with the Groupe de Recherches Musicales, who were experimenting with electroacoustic music under the direction of Pierre Schaeffer. Among Matičič's works are two concertos for piano and orchestra, a concerto for cello and orchestra, and a number of pieces created in a modernist and experimental mode. In 2007 he received the Prešeren Award for his lifetime achievement in music. He died on April 17, 2022, at the age of 95. Anže Logar
Anže Logar (born 15 May 1976) is a Slovenian politician who was Minister of Foreign Affairs in the third Janša cabinet from March 2020 to June 2022. Logar served as the Director of the Government Communication Office in both Governments of Janez Janša, and served as the official spokesperson of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2008. In the presidential elections of October and November 2022, he was a candidate, but lost to Nataša Pirc Musar. Education and early life In 2000, Logar graduated at the Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana. In January 2006, he obtained his MSc degree at The Graduate School of Government and European Studies. In July 2016 Logar received a doctorate from the Faculty of Applied Social Studies in Nova Gorica. Logar started working in 2000 in the marketing division of SKB Bank, Société Générale group. 2022 Slovenian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Slovenia on 23 October 2022. Since no candidate received a majority of the vote, a run-off between the top two placing candidates, Slovenian Democratic Party candidate Anže Logar and independent candidate Nataša Pirc Musar, took place on 13 November 2022. Incumbent President Borut Pahor was ineligible to run for a third consecutive term due to term limits. Pirc Musar won the run-off with 53.86% of the vote, becoming the first female president of Slovenia. Logar acknowledged his defeat and congratulated Pirc Musar on her victory.
