2021 Northern Territory Local Elections
The 2021 Northern Territory local elections were held on 28 August 2021 to elect the councils of the 17 local government areas (LGAs) in the Northern Territory, Australia. Six councils also held mayoral elections. 303 candidates contested the elections to fill a total of 159 council and mayoral positions. Two councils did not have enough nominations to fill all vacancies, causing supplementary elections to be held. A record number of voters were on the electoral roll, with an increase of more than 5,000 people compared to the 2017 elections. More than 25,000 people voted at an early voting centre. Independent Politician
An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Instant-runoff Voting
Instant-runoff voting (IRV) is a type of ranked preferential voting method. It uses a majority voting rule in single-winner elections where there are more than two candidates. It is commonly referred to as ranked-choice voting (RCV) in the United States (although there are other forms of ranked voting), preferential voting in Australia, where it has seen the widest adoption; in the United Kingdom, it is generally called alternative vote (AV), whereas in some other countries it is referred to as the single transferable vote, which usually means only its multi-winner variant. Central Desert Region
The Central Desert Region is a local government area of the Northern Territory, Australia, administered by the Central Desert Regional Council (formerly Central Desert Shire). The council's main towns are Ti-Tree, Yuendumu, and Lajamanu. The Region covers an area of and had a population of 4,208 in June 2018. Belyuen Shire
__NOTOC__ The Belyuen Shire is a local government area in the Northern Territory of Australia near Wagait Beach on the Cox Peninsula located across Darwin Harbour from the city of Darwin. The administrative area is centred on the mostly Indigenous community of Belyuen, known officially as Delissaville prior to 1975. Delissaville and its airstrip were named for Benjamin Cohen De Lissa of Queensland, sugar grower and investor in G. T. City Of Palmerston
The City of Palmerston is a local government area of the Northern Territory of Australia. It contains the suburbs of Darwin's satellite city, Palmerston, and is situated between the outer industrial areas of Darwin and the rural areas of Howard Springs. The City covers an area of and in June 2018 had a population of 37,862. The Palmerston City Council consists of the Mayor and seven aldermen. Litchfield Municipality
The Litchfield Council is a local government area of the Northern Territory of Australia on the eastern and southeastern outskirts of the Darwin-Palmerston urban area. The municipality covers an area of , and was created by the Northern Territory government on 6 September 1985. Fay Miller
Christina Fay Miller (born 8 April 1947) is a former Australian politician. She was the Country Liberal Party member for Katherine in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly from 2003 to 2008. Miller was born in South Australia, moving to Katherine in 1989. The Katherine Town Council is a local government area in the Northern Territory, established on 3 March 1978. It is situated south of Darwin, and covers an area of . The Town of Katherine is an established residential township with a commercial area and rural areas on the outskirts of the town. The original inhabitants of the town were the Dagoman and Jawoyn Aboriginal people. European settlement of the area dates from 1871, following the construction of the Overland Telegraph Line.
