Konstantine Vatskalis (born 4 April 1957) is a Greeks, Greek-Australian politician and the current List of mayors and lord mayors of Darwin, Lord Mayor of Darwin. Independent Labor (or Independent Labour) is a description used in Australian politics, often to designate a politician who is an Australian Labor Party (ALP) member but not endorsed by the party at elections or if sitting in a parliament, not a member of the Labor party room caucus. The label has also been used to describe candidate who identify with the labour movement, but not the ALP. The label is often used at local government elections, especially in states or local government areas where the ALP does not endorse any candidates. However, registering a party or affiliation as an "Independent Labor" is not permitted in New South Wales under section 64 of the ''Electoral Act 2017'', and the use of the term in electoral material is also considered an offence under section 180 of the act. The City of Darwin is a local government area of the Northern Territory, Australia. It includes the central business district of the capital, Darwin City, and represents two-thirds of its metropolitan population. The City covers an area of and, in June 2018, had a population of 84,613 people. History The first Town and District Council was formed in 1874. The Darwin Town Council was created in 1915. From 1921 the five member Council had been elected on a ratepayer's franchise. In 1930 the Mayor and Councillors resigned in protest against the re-introduction of adult suffrage. 2021 Northern Territory Local Elections
The 2021 Northern Territory local elections were held on 28 August 2021 to elect the councils of the 17 local government areas (LGAs) in the Northern Territory, Australia. Six councils also held mayoral elections. 303 candidates contested the elections to fill a total of 159 council and mayoral positions. Two councils did not have enough nominations to fill all vacancies, causing supplementary elections to be held. A record number of voters were on the electoral roll, with an increase of more than 5,000 people compared to the 2017 elections. More than 25,000 people voted at an early voting centre. Sally Gearin
Sally May Gearin (née Tait, born 1949) is an Australian lawyer. She was the first female member of the Bar in the Northern Territory. Early life and education Gearin was born in Sydney, New South Wales, in 1949 to Ellen (née Dempsey) and Alan Louvain Tait, She attended St Kevin's Primary School in Eastwood and Our Lady Of Mercy College, a Catholic boarding school at Parramatta.
