The 2018 season was the 142nd season of competitive soccer in Canada. News and events 2026 FIFA World Cup As part of the United 2026 World Cup bid with the United States and Mexico, the Canadian Soccer Association announced on March 15 that the three potential Canadian host cities were Edmonton, Montreal, and Toronto. The 2026 FIFA World Cup was awarded to the United bid on June 13. National teams John Herdman was named as head coach of the men's national team in January, replacing Octavio Zambrano. Mauro Biello was later named assistant coach of the men's national team. Kenneth Heiner-Møller was named as head coach of the women's national team following Herdman's departure. On April 10, 2017, the Canadian Soccer Association announced a joint bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup along with the United States Soccer Federation and the Mexican Football Federation. The announced proposal would see Canada host ten matches of the eighty expected to take place during the tournament. 2018 Women's League1 Ontario Season
The 2018 League1 Ontario season was the fourth season of play for the Women's Division of League1 Ontario, a Division 3 semi-professional soccer league in the Canadian soccer pyramid and the highest level of soccer based in the Canadian province of Ontario. Durham United FA won the league championship after beating the previously undefeated FC London and Woodbridge Strikers in the playoffs. Changes from 2017 The women's division grew from 11 to 13 teams, with the addition of women's side from the Oakville Blue Devils, as well as Hamilton United (representing the league's first entry from that city) and DeRo United FC (an academy run by former national team player Dwayne De Rosario). Octavio Zambrano
Octavio Zambrano Viera (born February 3, 1958) is an Ecuadorian football coach. He is a former player with international coaching experience. Zambrano has coached in North America, Latin America, and Europe. He holds a UEFA "A" diploma and a USSF "A" coaching license. Zambrano was a successful coach in Major League Soccer during the late 1990s and early 2000s. His .587 regular season winning record ranks second to Bruce Arena's .604, according to the 2015 MLS facts and record book. Player Zambrano was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He was an attacking midfielder and made his professional debut with Unión Deportiva Valdez of the Ecuadorian First Division. John Herdman
John Herdman (born 19 July 1975) is an English professional Manager (association football), football manager who is the head coach of the Canada men's national soccer team, Canada men's national team. Coaching career Early career Herdman began coaching football at a young age in England, while he was a student and part-time university lecturer at Northumbria University. He was a development coach for Sunderland A.F.C. Reserves and Academy, Sunderland's youth academy until 2001, when he moved to New Zealand. 2026 FIFA World Cup
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the 23rd FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international men's soccer championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. The tournament will be jointly hosted by 16 cities in three North American countries: Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The United States will host 60 matches, including every match from the quarterfinals onward, while neighboring Canada and Mexico will each host 10 matches. United 2026, also known as the North American 2026 bid, was a successful joint bid led by the United States Soccer Federation, together with the Canadian Soccer Association and the Mexican Football Federation, to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. While the soccer federations of Canada, Mexico, and the United States had individually announced plans to field a bid for the 2026 World Cup, the concept of a joint bid among the three North American countries was first proposed in 2016.
