2017–18 Major Arena Soccer League Season
The 2017–18 Major Arena Soccer League season is the tenth season for the league. The regular season started on October 28, 2017, and ended on March 4, 2018. Each team played a 22-game schedule. The Baltimore Blast won their third straight Ron Newman Cup Championship by defeating the Monterrey Flash 4–3 on March 25. Major Arena Soccer League
The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) is a North American professional indoor soccer league. The MASL features teams playing coast-to-coast in the United States and Mexico. MASL is the highest level of arena soccer in North America. MASL players generally earn salaries ranging from $15,000–45,000 per season, but former USMNT and MLS star Landon Donovan earned as much as $250,000 to play one year in 2019. History The league was organized as the Professional Arena Soccer League on May 18, 2008, as an offshoot of the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL-Premier), the largest amateur league in the United States. The league was originally nicknamed "PASL-Pro" to distinguish it from PASL-Premier. Tacoma Stars (2003)
The Tacoma Stars are an American soccer organization that fields teams in both the indoor soccer Major Arena Soccer League and the National Premier Soccer League. Founded in 2003, the indoor team plays at ShoWare Center in Kent, Washington. History The Stars were founded in 2003 as a member of the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL-Premier). The team is named after the Tacoma Stars (1983–92), Tacoma Stars that played in the original Major Indoor Soccer League (1978–1992), Major Indoor Soccer League from 1983 to 1992. The Stars won two PASL-Premier Championships (Summer 2004 & Winter 2009-2010). The Stars made the transition to professional status and joined the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) for the 2010–11 Professional Arena Soccer League season, 2010-11 season. Kraig Chiles
Kraig Chiles (born May 14, 1984) is an American soccer player currently playing for the San Diego Sockers in the Major Arena Soccer League. Career Youth and college Chiles played high school soccer for Poway High School in Poway, California, and remains one of the school's all-time leading goalscorers. At San Diego State University he was named to the All-Pac-10 team three times, including First Team All-Pac-10 senior year. Kraig scored 21 goals and had 12 assists in his four years with the Aztecs. Professional Chiles was drafted 9th overall by CD Chivas USA in the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft. He made his MLS debut for Chivas against FC Dallas on 20 April 2008, but was released by the team in February 2009. Having been unable to secure a professional contract elsewhere, Chiles signed for Los Angeles Legends of the USL Premier Development League in June 2009. Leo Gibson
Leo Gibson (born August 9, 1983) is a Liberian footballer who currently plays for and is the former head coach for the Kansas City Comets in the MASL. Career College Gibson was born in Monrovia, Liberia, but came to the United States in 2002, having previously played for the Monrovia Black Star youth team in the Liberian Premier League. He played college soccer at King College in Tennessee in 2002 and 2003. Professional Gibson had a trial with the Dallas Burn of Major League Soccer in 2004., before eventually signing with the Minnesota Thunder of the USL First Division in 2005. However, a hand injury kept him from playing any games that season. He remained with the Minnesota through the end of 2008, becoming an integral part of the team in the 2006 and 2007 seasons especially. Ian Bennett (soccer)
Ian Dwight Bennett (born August 27, 1983) is a Canadian soccer player who plays for the Milwaukee Wave in the Major Arena Soccer League. He is the older brother of former Syracuse Silver Knights player Josh Bennett. Career College and amateur Bennett attended St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School, and played college soccer at Marian College from 2003 to 2006. During his college years Bennett also played with the Hamilton Thunder in the Canadian Professional Soccer League; he joined the Thunder in 2001 and remained with the team through the 2005 season. In 2006, he spent the summer with the Palm Beach Pumas of the USL Premier Development League. Pechanga Arena (historically known as the San Diego Sports Arena) is an indoor arena built in 1966 and located in the Midway area of San Diego, California. The accesso ShoWare Center is a multi-purpose arena in Kent, Washington, United States. About the venue The construction of the arena began September 2005, with the venue opening in January 2009. The principal tenants are the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League and the Tacoma Stars of the Major Arena Soccer League. Naming rights to the arena were initially sold to Amiga, Inc. and the arena was to be called the "Amiga Center". However, Amiga failed to make a promised down payment, and lost the naming rights as of August 2007.
