Angélica Mendoza de Ascarza (b. 1 October 1929 – d. 28 August 2017) was a Peruvian Quechua people, Quechua human rights activist. Juaneco y Su Combo is a Peruvian cumbia band formed in Pucallpa, Peru in 1966. History Juaneco y Su Combo was originally founded by the amateur saxophonist Juan Wong Paredes as Juaneco y su Conjunto. In 1969, Paredes handed over control of the band to his son, Juan Wong Popolizio, who subsequently renamed it "Juaneco y su Combo". During the early 1970's, the band's popularity peaked, and they became one of the most innovative Peruvian cumbia bands at the time and a pioneer in the jungle cumbia genre. The band's members performed in headgear made from parrot feathers and cotton tunics, similar to the Shipibo The Shipibo-Conibo are an indigenous people along the Ucayali River in the Amazon rainforest in Peru. Peruvian Cumbia
Peruvian cumbia is a subgenre of chicha (Andean tropical music) that became popular in the coastal cities of Peru, mainly in Lima in the 1960s through the fusion of local versions of the original Colombian genre, traditional highland huayno, and rock music, particularly surf rock and psychedelic rock. The term chicha is more frequently used for the pre-1990s variations of the subgenre. Unlike other styles of cumbia, the chicha subgenre's harmonics are based on the pentatonic scale typical of Andean music. It is played with keyboards or synthesizers and up to three electric guitars that can play simultaneous melodies, an element derived from the harp and guitar lines of Andean huayno. The rhythmic electric guitar in chicha is played with upstrokes, following patterns derived from Peruvian coastal Peruvian waltz, creole waltz. Luis Abanto Morales (25 August 1923 – 14 June 2017) was a Peruvian singer and composer. Born in Trujillo, Peru, his childhood was spent in Cajabamba where, after his father died, he was cared for by his paternal grandmother. His early studies were at the 113 school. When Abanto was 13 years old his mother, doña Rosa, brought him to Lima, and they moved to the Tingüa passage in the District of Lince. From a young age Abanto had to support his family. There he would work at day and study at night. Later he took electricity training in the Salesians Catholic School. His career began in 1942 when he won the "Districts Song" contest sponsored by Radio Callao. Later, Abanto became a famous singer and composer of traditional Peruvian music.
