Modern Pentathlon
The modern pentathlon is an Olympic sport consisting of fencing (one-touch épée), freestyle swimming, equestrian show jumping, pistol shooting, and cross country running. The event is inspired by the traditional pentathlon held during the ancient Olympics. The modern pentathlon was first held in 1912, and its rules have changed several times over the years. The latest structure, as of the 2020 Olympics, consists of three separate events for fencing, swimming, and equestrian, which determine each athlete's starting time in the final event. The last event, called the laser-run, alternates four legs of laser pistol shooting followed by an 800 m run (for 3200 m in total). The sport has been a feature of the Summer Olympic Games since 1912, despite several attempts to remove it. A world championships for modern pentathlon has been held annually since 1949. Annika Schleu
Annika Schleu (born 3 April 1990) is a German modern pentathlete. She won the gold medal of the relay event at the 2012 World Championships and 2017 World Championships. She has competed in three Olympic Games, finishing in 26th place in 2012 and in 4th place in 2016. Personal life She was born in Berlin, Germany. She is married to fellow modern pentathlete Christian Zillekens. Individual events She won the silver medal at the 2018 World Championships. At junior level, she also won silver at the 2008 European Junior Championships. Schleu was leading the competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics when she was unable to successfully complete the show jumping event, moving her from first to last place, and an eventual 31st place. Dmytro Kirpulyanskyy
Dmytro Kostiantynovych Kirpulyanskyy ( uk, Дмитро Костянтинович Кірпулянський; born June 2, 1985, in Makiivka) is a two-time Olympic modern pentathlete from Ukraine. He also won an individual bronze medal at the 2009 World Modern Pentathlon Championships in London, England. Laura Asadauskaitė
Laura Asadauskaitė-Zadneprovskienė (born 28 February 1984 in Vilnius) is a Lithuanian modern pentathlete. She won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and achieved an Olympic record score. Asadauskaitė also competed in three other Olympics, 2008 in Beijing, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, and in 2021 in Tokyo Olympics in which she was awarded with the silver medal. She has been European and World Champion in pentathlon. In 2009 Asadauskaitė married modern pentathlete Andrejus Zadneprovskis, a former world champion who won two Olympic medals. Arthur Lanigan-O'Keeffe (born 13 September 1991) is an Irish athlete who competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics and 2016 Summer Olympics in the Modern pentathlon. In the 2016 Olympics he finished in 8th place running 11.12.23 for the final 3200 metre running and shooting segment. Bath () is a city in the Bath and North East Somerset unitary area in the county of Somerset, England, known for and named after its Roman-built baths. At the 2021 Census, the population was 101,557. Hwang Woo-jin ( ko, 황우진, also Hwang Wu-Jin, born May 8, 1990, in Gwangju) is a modern pentathlete from South Korea. He competed for the modern pentathlon at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, along with his compatriot Jung Jin-hwa. "Careless" Hwang merely called himself ''Careless'', because he made numerous slight mistakes in his modern pentathlon career. He became one of the major highlights in the men's event at the 2012 Olympics, when his horse Shearwater Oscar threw him off the ground before he had even started his round in the riding segment.
