Ebola
Ebola, also known as Ebola virus disease (EVD) and Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF), is a viral hemorrhagic fever in humans and other primates, caused by ebolaviruses. Symptoms typically start anywhere between two days and three weeks after becoming infected with the virus. The first symptoms are usually fever, sore throat, muscle pain, and headaches. These are usually followed by vomiting, diarrhoea, rash and decreased liver and kidney function, at which point, some people begin to bleed both internally and externally. The disease kills between 25% and 90% of those infected – about 50% on average. Death is often due to shock from fluid loss, and typically occurs between six and 16 days after the first symptoms appear. Early treatment of symptoms increases the survival rate considerably compared to late start. Johnnie Lewis
Johnnie N. Lewis (April 16, 1946 – January 21, 2015) was a Liberian lawyer and politician who served as the 18th Chief Justice of Liberia from 2006 to 2012. Before his appointment to the Supreme Court, he served as a circuit judge in Liberia's judicial system. Early life Johnnie N. Lewis was born to Roderick N. Lewis and Mary Houston-Lewis in Greenville, Sinoe County, Liberia on April 16, 1946. His father was a lawyer and his mother was a school teacher; he had three brothers and two sisters. Lewis studied at St. Joseph's Catholic Elementary School followed by Sinoe High School. After finishing high school, Lewis attended the University of Liberia in Monrovia where he earned first a Bachelor of Arts, then a Bachelor of Laws from the university's Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law.The Inquirer. Monrovia () is the capital city of the West African country of Liberia. An epidemic of Ebola virus disease occurred in Liberia from 2014 to 2015, along with the neighbouring countries of Guinea and Sierra Leone. The first cases of virus were reported by late March 2014. The Ebola virus, a biosafety level four pathogen, is an RNA virus discovered in 1976. Before the outbreak of the Ebola epidemic the country had 50 doctors for its population of 4.3 million. Francis S. Korkpor (born September 5, 1952) is a Liberian jurist and lawyer. He served as Chief Justice of Liberia from 2013 to 2022. Early life and education Born in the town of Zao, Lao Clan, Nimba County, Liberia on September 5, 1952, Korkpor's career in public service and the law spans over three decades, and includes service as a private lawyer, prosecutor, and Supreme Court Justice. He earned his bachelor of arts at the University of Liberia in 1976 before going on to earn his criminal justice degree from the North Carolina Justice Academy in the United States of America from 1977-1978. He returned to Liberia after completing his criminal justice program and enrolled at the UL Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law where he graduated in 1982 with a bachelor of laws degree. Chief Justice Of Liberia
The chief justice of Liberia is the head of the judicial branch of the Government of the Republic of Liberia and the chief judge of the Supreme Court of Liberia. Appointment and term Article 54(c) of the Constitution stipulates that the chief justice is appointed by the president of Liberia and confirmed by the Senate. Per Article 68, eligibility for the position of chief justice requires that the candidate: *be a citizen of Liberia; *be of good moral character; *have been a counselor of the Supreme Court Bar for at least five years. Article 71 states that the chief justice "shall hold their offices during good behavior."
