2012 Sun Belt Conference Football Season
The 2012 Sun Belt Conference football season was the 12th season of college football play for the Sun Belt Conference. The season began August 30, 2012 and concluded January 6, 2013 as part of the 2012-13 NCAA Division I FBS football season. Ten teams participated in the competition: Arkansas State, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Louisiana–Lafayette, Louisiana–Monroe, Middle Tennessee State, North Texas, South Alabama, Troy and Western Kentucky. South Alabama competed in the Sun Belt for the first time and became the conference's tenth team. Due to NCAA transitional rules, South Alabama was not eligible for a conference championship or postseason play. 2012 Louisiana–Monroe Warhawks Football Team
The 2012 Louisiana–Monroe Warhawks football team represented the University of Louisiana at Monroe in the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Warhawks were led by third-year head coach Todd Berry and played their home games at Malone Stadium. They were a member of the Sun Belt Conference. They finished the season 8–5, 6–2 in Sun Belt play to finish in a three-way tie for second place. Caylin Hauptmann
Caylin Hauptmann (born July 10, 1991) is a former American football offensive lineman. He signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He was signed to the Seattle Seahawks in September 2013. Early years Hauptmann was born in Los Angeles, California. He attended Beverly Hills High School in Beverly Hills and played high school football. He played center and tackle. He was also on the Beverly Hills Track and Field team as a member on the shot put team. Hauptmann broke a 30-year record on shot put (60-10.5) at Beverly Hills. College career Immediately following high school graduation, Hauptmann accepted a scholarship offer to College of the Canyons, where he played left guard on the offensive line. Outland Trophy
The Outland Trophy is awarded to the best college football interior lineman in the United States as adjudged by the Football Writers Association of America. It is named after John H. Outland. One of only a few players ever to be named an All-American at two positions, Outland garnered consensus All-America honors in 1898 as a tackle and consensus honors as a halfback in 1899. Outland had always contended that football tackles and guards deserved greater recognition and conceived the Outland Trophy as a means of providing this recognition. In 1988, Jim Ridlon was commissioned to design and sculpt the Outland Trophy. Doak Walker Award
Since 1990 the Doak Walker Award honors the top running back in college football in the United States. It is named in honor of Doak Walker, a former running back who played for the SMU Mustangs from 1945 to 1949 and in the National Football League for the Detroit Lions from 1950 to 1955. 2012 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Football Team
The 2012 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers football team represented Western Kentucky University in the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season. They were led by third-year head coach Willie Taggart and played their home games at Houchens Industries–L. T. Smith Stadium. They were a member of the Sun Belt Conference. They finished the season 7–6, 4–4 in Sun Belt play to finish in fifth place. They were invited to the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, their first bowl appearance since joining FBS in 2007, where they were defeated by Central Michigan.
