2011–12 Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Season
The 2011–12 Mid-American Conference men's basketball season began with practices in October 2011, followed by the start of the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season in November. Conference play began in January 2012 and concluded in March 2012. Akron won the regular season title with a conference record of 13–3 over second place Buffalo. Third-seeded Ohio defeated Akron in the MAC tournament final and represented the MAC in the NCAA tournament where they defeated Michigan and South Florida then lost in the Sweet Sixteen to top-seeded North Carolina in overtime. National Collegiate Athletic Association
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is a nonprofit organization that regulates student athletics among about 1,100 schools in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. 2011–12 Kent State Golden Flashes Men's Basketball Team
The 2011–12 Kent State Golden Flashes men's basketball team represented Kent State University during the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Golden Flashes, led by first year head coach Rob Senderoff, played their home games at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center and are members of the East Division of the Mid-American Conference. They finished the season 21–12, 10–6 in MAC play to finish in fourth place in the East Division. They lost in the semifinals of the MAC Basketball tournament to Akron. Carlton Guyton (born August 7, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for ZTE of the Hungarian Nemzeti Bajnokság I/A (NB I/A). Standing at , he plays at the shooting guard position. Quincy Johan Diggs (born April 8, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for Kaposvári KK of the Nemzeti Bajnokság I/A. College career In the 2011–11 season, the Akron Zips qualified for the NCAA Tournament, where they lost to Notre Dame with Diggs scoring 11 points in the matchup. Robert Albert Murphy (born May 26, 1960) is an American former professional baseball player who was a relief pitcher in Major League Baseball for 11 seasons in the 1980s and 1990s. Murphy played college baseball for the University of Florida, and was picked by the Cincinnati Reds in the first round (3rd pick) of the 1981 amateur draft (January Secondary). Justin Pierre Greene (born August 13, 1989) is an American retired basketball player and current coach. He played college basketball for the NCAA Division I Kent State Golden Flashes. On May 20, 2008, Greene committed to attend Kent State University. In his freshman season, Greene saw limited playing time, averaging 8.8 minutes per game and 2.2 points per game. The 2011–12 Eastern Michigan Eagles men's basketball team represented Eastern Michigan University during the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Eagles, led by first year head coach Rob Murphy, played their home games at the Eastern Michigan University Convocation Center and were members of the West Division of the Mid-American Conference. They finished the season 14–18, 9–7 in MAC play to finish in first place in the West Division. It was the Eagles first MAC West title.
