2010 UCI ProTour
The 2010 UCI ProTour is the sixth series of the UCI ProTour: a series of 16 races in which the ProTour teams, considered the elite teams of the sport, participate alongside a number of invited "wildcard" teams. As in 2009, there is no competitive element to the ProTour of itself, but all its events contribute towards the 2010 UCI World Ranking. The first race was the 2010 Tour Down Under on 19–24 January, and the series will end with two new events, bringing the tour to North America for the first time, the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal on 10 September and 12 September respectively. Two newly formed teams, the American and British based , joined the ProTour, while the licenses of and were not renewed. UCI ProTour
The UCI ProTour was a series of road bicycle races in Europe, Australia and Canada organised by the UCI (International Cycling Union). Created by Hein Verbruggen, former president of the UCI, it comprises a number of 'ProTour' cycling teams, each of whom are required to compete in every round of the series. It was initially the basis of a season long competition for rankings points, created for 2005 to replace the UCI Road World Cup series, which ended at the end of the 2004 season (although the World Cup did not include any stage races). The ProTour was the subject of continuing disputes involving the UCI, cycling teams, and the organizers of the world's most prominent bicycle races (most notably, the Grand Tours), and in 2009 and 2010 the ranking element of the ProTour was superseded by the UCI World Ranking. 2010 Gent–Wevelgem
The 2010 Gent–Wevelgem cycle road race took place on March 28, 2010. It was the 72nd edition of the international top classic Gent–Wevelgem. The final of Gent–Wevelgem was largely redrawn. An extra track was added in France, with a double passage over Mont des Cats and Mont Noir. The race was the sixth event in the UCI World Ranking. Bernhard Eisel (AUT) beat Sep Vanmarcke of Belgium in a six-way sprint to the finish to win the Ghent-Wevelgem cycling classic. One of the pre-race favourites Philippe Gilbert finished third ahead of American veteran George Hincapie. Janez Brajkovič
Janez "Jani" Brajkovič (born 18 December 1983) is a racing cyclist from Metlika, Slovenia, who most recently rode for UCI Continental team . He was the world under-23 Time Trial champion in 2004. In 2018, while riding for the team, Brajkovič was suspended after a positive anti-doping test. He was banned for just over a year, and once his suspension was complete, he rejoined the team. 2010 Critérium Du Dauphiné
The 2010 Critérium du Dauphiné was the 62nd edition of the Critérium du Dauphiné (formerly ''Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré'') stage race, and the first since it was renamed. It took place from 6–13 June, and was part of both the 2010 UCI ProTour and World Calendar. It began in Evian-les-Bains with an individual time trial, and ended in Sallanches. The race was won by Slovenia's Janez Brajkovič, riding for . Second in the general classification was Alberto Contador of , while Tejay van Garderen finished third for . 2010 Liège–Bastogne–Liège
The 2010 Liège–Bastogne–Liège monument classic cycling race took place on April 25, 2010. This race was won by Alexander Vinokourov after slipping into a breakaway with Alexandr Kolobnev. Vinokourov attacked on the last hill with under 500m to go to take the victory. Alejandro Valverde, the winner in 2006 and 2008, finished third in the race, but was stripped of the result as a result of a doping suspension applied on May 31, 2010. Alejandro Valverde Belmonte (born 25 April 1980) is a Spanish former professional road racing cyclist, who last rode for UCI WorldTeam . Simon Špilak
Simon Špilak (born 23 June 1986) is a retired Slovenian professional road bicycle racer. Professional career Born in Tišina, Špilak was the winner of the 2010 Tour de Romandie, after original race winner Alejandro Valverde had his results expunged as part of a doping suspension. Špilak went on to gain second place in that race in 2013 and 2014, both times behind Chris Froome. In 2013, he was the victor of the GP Miguel Induráin and the Eschborn–Frankfurt City Loop, his only two victories of the year. In 2015, he won the general classification of the Tour de Suisse with only five seconds of an advantage over Geraint Thomas. The victory was decided on the last day's time trial. 2010 Tour De Romandie
The 2010 Tour de Romandie (64th Edition) cycling road race started on 27 April and finished on 2 May in Switzerland. It was the 6th event in the 2010 UCI ProTour, and the 13th event in the World Calendar. The race winner had been declared as Alejandro Valverde, who won the final stage to take the race by 11 seconds. However, some four weeks after the end of the race the UCI placed Valverde under a two-year suspension for his involvement in the 2006 Operación Puerto doping case, which was backdated to, and involved removal of all his results since, 1 January 2010. Philippe Gilbert (born 5 July 1982) is a Belgian former professional road bicycle racer, who is best known for winning the World Road Race Championships in 2012, and for being one of two riders, along with Davide Rebellin, to have won the three Ardennes classics – the Amstel Gold Race, La Flèche Wallonne and Liège–Bastogne–Liège – in a single season, which he accomplished in 2011. 2010 Amstel Gold Race
The 2010 Amstel Gold Race was the 45th edition of the Amstel Gold Race classic cycle races, classic cycle race and took place on April 18, 2010. It was held on a 257.4 kilometres (159.9 mi) course from Maastricht to Cauberg as the sixth event of the 2010 UCI ProTour and the tenth event in the 2010 UCI World Ranking, UCI World Ranking series. Christopher Brandon Horner (born October 23, 1971) is an American retired professional road racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 1996 and 2019, and is the most recent American rider to win a Grand Tour. The 2010 Tour of the Basque Country, was the 50th edition of the Tour of the Basque Country cycling stage race. It started on 5 April and ended on 10 April. Chris Horner won the race 7 seconds ahead of Alejandro Valverde after winning the sixth and final stage which was an individual time trial 8 seconds ahead of Valverde. Valverde's results were subsequently removed after a retroactive suspension was applied.
