2010 Gent–Wevelgem
The 2010 Gent–Wevelgem road bicycle racing, cycle road race took place on 28 March 2010. It was the 72nd edition of the international top classic Gent–Wevelgem. The final of Gent–Wevelgem was largely redrawn. An extra track was added in France, with a double passage over Mont des Cats and Mont Noir. The race was the sixth event in the 2010 UCI World Ranking, UCI World Ranking. Bernhard Eisel (AUT) beat Sep Vanmarcke of Belgium in a six-way sprint to the finish to win the Ghent-Wevelgem cycling classic. One of the pre-race favourites Philippe Gilbert finished third ahead of American veteran George Hincapie. The other pre-race favourites Tom Boonen and Fabian Cancellara both dropped out in the middle of the race. Eisel commented after the race, "Until now I never liked this race. 2010 UCI World Ranking
The 2010 UCI World Ranking was the second edition of the ranking system launched by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in 2009; the following year it would be merged with the UCI ProTour to form the UCI World Tour. The series started with the Tour Down Under's opening stage on 19 January, and consisted of 13 stage races and 13 one-day races, culminating in the Giro di Lombardia on 16 October. Two new races, the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal were added to the ProTour series, and consequently to the ranking schedule. These two Canadian events, and the Tour Down Under, were the only races in the series to take place outside Europe.
