2005 South Pacific Mini Games
The VII South Pacific Mini Games were held July 25-August 4, 2005 in Palau. Torch lighter was athlete Christopher Silas Adolf, Palau's first Olympian. Participating countries Tahiti and Tokelau did not send teams to the games, with Tahiti citing a need to conserve costs. Sports 12 sports were contested at the 2005 Pacific Mini Games: Note: Numbers in parentheses indicate the number of events in each sport. Final medal table New Caledonia dominated the medal tally, finishing ahead of Fiji. The small nation of Nauru finished in third place with 18 gold medals; all of them gold and won in the weightlifting competition. Host nation Palau also won 18 medals and finished in sixth position on the table. Koror
Koror is the state comprising the main commercial centre of the Republic of Palau. It consists of several islands, the most prominent being Koror Island (also ''Oreor Island''). It is Palau’s most populous state. History In the oral tradition of Palau, Koror is one of the children of Milad, and thus occupies an important position in traditional belief. In addition, Koror is the home of the clan of the Ibedul, the high chief of Palau. Several traditional villages in Koror span the volcanic and rock island portions. Tommy Remengesau
Thomas Esang "Tommy" Remengesau Jr. (born 28 February 1956) is a Palauan people, Palauan politician; in 2013 he was elected the ninth president of Palau and was re-elected to that office in 2016. Previously he served as the seventh president of the island nation from 2001 to 2009. He served as a Senator in the Palau National Congress between his two administrations. In sum, Remengesau was elected Vice-President of Palau in 1992 and 1996, then president in 2000, 2004, 2012, 2016 and 2020. Intending to make Palau less dependent upon United States aid, Remengesau has promoted the expansion and growth of tourism in Palau with the slogan "Preserve the Best and Improve the Rest". Christopher Silas Adolf (born April 16, 1976) is a retired track and field sprint athlete who competed internationally for Palau. He was born on 16 April, 1976. Adolf was part of the first ever team from Palau to compete at the Olympics when he was picked for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and his result was #8h r1/4 in 100 metres. National Stadium (Palau)
The Palau National Stadium (PCC Track & Field Stadium) is a multi-purpose stadium, multi-purpose sports stadium in Koror City, Palau. It is used primarily for track and field events as well as many Association football, football matches. The stadium can seat 4000 people.
