Fukuoka
is the sixth-largest city in Japan, the second-largest port city after Yokohama, and the capital city of Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. The city is built along the shores of Hakata Bay, and has been a center of international commerce since ancient times. Chad Carvin
Chad Robb Carvin (born April 13, 1974) is an American former competition swimmer and Olympic medalist. At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, he earned a silver medal by swimming for the second-place U.S. team in the preliminary heats of the men's 4×200-meter freestyle relay. He also competed in the men's 400-meter freestyle, and finished sixth in the event final with a time of 3:47.58. Carvin attended the University of Arizona, and swam for the Arizona Wildcats swimming and diving team in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competition. He was the 1994 NCAA Champion in the 500-yard freestyle and 1650-yard freestyle, setting American, US Open, and NCAA records. Thomas Andrew Malchow (born August 18, 1976) is a retired American competition swimmer, Olympic gold medalist, and former world record-holder. Malchow represented the United States in three consecutive Summer Olympics. At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, he received a silver medal for his second-place performance in the men's 200-meter butterfly. Four years later at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, he won the gold medal in the men's 200-meter butterfly. He also set a new world record in the 200-meter butterfly in 2000. Malchow was also a captain of the U.S. Men's Swimming Team at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Mehmet Uğur Taner (born June 20, 1974) is a retired Turkish-born American swimmer. Taner was born in Istanbul, Turkey, the son of Erol and Gulcin Taner, who moved to the United States one year later. Nathaniel James Dusing (born November 25, 1978) is an American former competition swimming (sport), swimmer, Olympic medalist, and world champion. Education Dusing won six swimming state championships for Covington Catholic High School before graduating in 1997. The later swam for the University of Texas. Thomas Peter Wilkens (born November 25, 1975) is an American former competition swimmer and Olympic medalist. Wilkens represented the United States at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Philip John Rogers (born 24 April 1971) is a former breaststroke swimmer who competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics for Australia, starting in 1992. He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. At his Olympic debut he won the bronze medal in the 100-metre breaststroke, followed by a bronze in 1996 in the 4x100-metre medley relay. Kurt Grote
Kurt David Grote (born August 3, 1973) is an American former competition swimmer and Olympic gold medalist. Grote competed internationally in the breaststroke events during the 1990s. Grote did not start swimming until the age of fifteen. He began swimming under the advice of a doctor to improve his asthma condition. He attended Stanford University, where he was a member of the Stanford Cardinal swimming and diving team. He also trained with and competed for the Santa Clara Swim Club. After his swimming career, he married a woman named Amy and completed his MD at Stanford. He has gone on to become a partner in McKinsey & Company's Healthcare Payor and Provider practice. Grote competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Brad Bridgewater
Bradley Michael Bridgewater (born March 29, 1973) is an American former competition swimmer who won the gold medal in the men's 200-meter backstroke at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Bridgewater attended Lake Mary High School in Lake Mary, Florida, and was coached by 1972 Olympic gold medalist Fred Tyler. In college, he swam for the Texas Longhorns swimming and diving team of the University of Texas from 1992 to 1994, then transferred to the University of Southern California (USC). Under Trojans coach Mark Schubert, Bridgewater earned 1995 and 1996 All-America honors in the 100- and 200-meter backstroke. At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Bridgewater won the gold medal in men's 200-meter backstroke with a time of 1:58.54, beating fellow American and rival Tripp Schwenk by .45 seconds.
