The 1992 World Junior Championships in Athletics was the fourth edition of the international athletics competition for athletes aged 19 years or under. It was held in Seoul, South Korea from September 16 to September 20, 1992. The Unified Team (russian: Объединённая команда) was the name used for the sports team of the former Soviet Union (except the Baltic states) at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville and the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. The IOC country code was EUN, after the French name, Équipe unifiée. The Unified Team was sometimes informally called the CIS Team (Commonwealth of Independent States, as a counterpart of CIS national football team taking part in Euro 1992 of the same year), although Georgia did not join the CIS until 1993. Evgeny Gennadyevich Pechonkin (russian: Евгений Геннадьевич Печёнкин; born October 9, 1973, in Krasnodar) is a Russian bobsledder and former track and field athlete who has switched to his current sport in 2005. As a sprint hurdler, he represented Russia at the Olympic Games in 1996, 2000 and 2004. He was the world junior champion in 1992 and competed at the World Championships in Athletics in 1993 and 2001. His best Bobsleigh World Cup finish was second in the four-man event at Cortina d'Ampezzo in January 2008. Pechonkin's best finish at the FIBT World Championships was tenth in the four-man event at Altenberg in 2008. He was banned from athletics for two years after failing a doping test in 2002 for the banned substance norandrosterone. Ismael Kirui
Ismael Kirui (born 20 February 1975 in Kapcherop, Marakwet District) is a former Kenyan long-distance runner who won gold medals over 5000 metres at the 1993 and 1995 World Championships in Athletics. His victory in Stuttgart in 1993 was especially impressive as he was only aged eighteen and led the race from the front for most of the second half. On the final straight he shrugged off an attack from Haile Gebrselassie. His winning time of 13:02.75 minutes was a new World Championships record. He became the youngest world champion, aged 18 years 177 days. The same year he broke the World junior record in 5000 metres in Zurich by running 13:06.50.
