Walter Stewart Owen
Walter Stewart Owen, (January 26, 1904 – January 13, 1981) was the 22nd Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia from 1973–1978. In his youth, Owen was the first premier of the British Columbia Older Boys' Parliament, which later became the British Columbia Youth Parliament. He became a prominent lawyer in Vancouver. He was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1928 and in 1933 was named the youngest crown prosecutor in Canada at that time. He later went into private practice and co-founded the Vancouver law firm Owen Bird. In 1958, he was elected as the president of the Canadian Bar Association. In 1956, Owen and business partner Frank Griffiths purchased New Westminster radio station CKNW and co-founded Western International Communications Ltd. ("WIC"). He is the father of Philip Owen, who served three terms as the mayor of the city of Vancouver. Pauline Mills McGibbon
Pauline Mills McGibbon (21 October 1910 – 14 December 2001) served as the 22nd Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1974 to 1980. In addition to being the first woman to occupy that position, she was also the first woman to serve as a viceregal representative in Canadian history. Once described as 'Ontario’s Eve' for all her 'first woman' achievements, the Honourable Pauline McGibbon dedicated her life to the betterment of her community, province and nation. A 1976 article indicated 'She has a warm, smiling face wreathed by a grey braid, her trademark… She is almost apologetic for being ‘old-fashioned,' but, because of her upbringing, she says she rarely feels really dressed, without gloves'. William Ross Macdonald
William Ross Macdonald (December 25, 1891 – May 28, 1976), served as the 21st Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1968 to 1974, and as 22nd Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada from 1949 to 1953. Early life Macdonald was born in Toronto, Ontario, to a dry goods merchant who had immigrated from Scotland. He went on to study law at the University of Toronto and the Osgoode Hall Law School. Upon completion, he practised law in Brantford, Ontario, and served with the 2nd Cycle Corps and 4th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force in the First World War. In 1921, Macdonald married Muriel Whittaker. Political career Macdonald sought Liberal Party nomination to run for election to the House of Commons of Canada for the 1926 election, but lost the nomination by a single vote. Clarence Gosse
Clarence Lloyd Gosse (October 20, 1912 – December 21, 1996) was a Canadian physician and the 25th Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. Born in Spaniard's Bay, Newfoundland, he moved to Nova Scotia when he was ten. He graduated from the medical school of Dalhousie University in 1939. During World War II, serving in the Canadian Army Medical Corps, he was a member of one of the first surgical teams in the Battle of Normandy. After the War, in Halifax, he was a Professor of Urology at Dalhousie University and Chair of the Department of Urology at the Victoria General and Camp Hill hospitals (now the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre). Ewart John Arlington Harnum (October 13, 1910 – February 29, 1996) was a Canadian businessman and the fifth lieutenant governor of Newfoundland from 1969 to 1974. Born on Sound Island in Placentia Bay, Newfoundland, Harnum was educated at Bishop Feild College, St. John's. Hédard Robichaud
Hédard Joseph Robichaud (November 2, 1911 – August 16, 1999) was an Acadian-Canadian Member of Parliament, Cabinet member, Senator and the first Acadian to be Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick. Born in Shippagan, New Brunswick, the son of Jean George Robichaud and Amanda Boudreau, he received a B.A. from the Université Saint-Joseph, later the University of Moncton, in 1931. He first ran for the House of Commons as a Liberal candidate in a 1952 by-election in the riding of Gloucester, New Brunswick and lost. He was elected in the 1953 federal election, and was re-elected in the 1957, 1958, 1962, 1963 and 1965 elections. From 1963 to 1968, he was the Minister of Fisheries. In 1968, he was appointed to the Senate representing the Senatorial division of Gloucester, New Brunswick. He resigned in 1971 to become the 24th Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick.
