The president of India ( IAST: ) is the head of state of the Republic of India. The president is the nominal head of the executive, the first citizen of the country, as well as the commander-in-chief of the Indian Armed Forces. Droupadi Murmu is the 15th and current president, having taken office from 25 July 2022. The office of president was created when India officially became a republic on 26 January 1950 after gaining independence on 15th August 1947, when its constitution came into force. The president is indirectly elected by an electoral college comprising both houses of the Parliament of India and the legislative assemblies of each of India's states and territories, who themselves are all directly elected by the citizens. Bhagwan Sahay
Bhagwan Sahay (15 February 1905 – 6 December 1986) was the Governor of Kerala, India, from 6 February 1966 to 15 May 1967. Bhagwan Sahay took over as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir on 15 May 1967 and continued till 3 July 1973. He was an ICS officer and an alumnus of the S.M College in Chandausi, Moradabad and became the second alumni of that College, after his immediate predecessor Ajit Prasad Jain, to become governor of Kerala. Before his stint in Kerala, he was also the Lieutenant Governor of Punjab. In the 1970s, under President VV Giri, a former governor of Kerala himself, he headed the committee of governors which sought to outline guidelines for constitutional heads. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, and was appointed an OBE in the 1945 Birthday Honours. List Of Governors Of Tamil Nadu
The governor of Tamil Nadu is the head of state of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The governors have similar powers and functions at the state level as those of the president of India at central level. They exist in the state appointed by the president of India for a term of five years and they are not local to the state that they are appointed to govern. The factors based on which the president evaluates the candidates is not mentioned in the constitution. Sardar Hukam Singh
Sardar Hukam Singh (30 August 1895 – 27 May 1983) was an Indian politician and the third Speaker of the Lok Sabha and second Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 1962 to 1967. He was also governor of Rajasthan from 1967 to 1972. Early life Hukam Singh was born at Montgomery in Sahiwal District (presently in Pakistan). His father Sham Singh was a businessman. He passed his matriculation examination from the Government High School, Montgomery in 1913 and graduated from the Khalsa College, Amritsar, in 1917. He passed his LL.B. examination in 1921 from the Law College, Lahore and subsequently set up a practice as lawyer in Montgomery. A devout Sikh, Hukam Singh took part in the movement to free Sikh Gurdwaras from British political influence. Dr. Shaukatullah Shah Ansari (12 May 1908 – 29 December 1972) was an Indian politician, physician, diplomat, and physician who was elected to the Indian Parliament from the Bidar parliamentary constituency for the first Lok Sabha of India. Early life Shaukatullah Shah was born on 16 June 1908 in Yusufpur- Mohammadabad in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Amjadulla Shah, was a district judge at Mirzapur. Shaukatullah Shah received his early education at home. Thereafter he got enrolled at Aligarh Muslim University for higher studies. He obtained his bachelor degree in sciences and doctor of medicine from Geneva high school, Switzerland and University of Paris, France. Palathinkal Varkey Cherian (or Cheriyan) (9 July 1893 – 9 November 1969) was a physician, surgeon and politician from India. He was the Governor of Maharashtra from 14 November 1964 to 8 November 1969. Early life and medical career Cherian was born in Alleppey, Travancore, as the son of Achamma and Magistrate P.M Varkey and to the Anglican Syrian Christian Palathinkal family. After completing schooling in Travancore, Cherian went to Madras in 1912, where he earned his MBBS degree in 1917. He then joined the Government Hospital for Women and Children as an Assistant Surgeon. He was later commissioned to the Indian Medical Service, as part of the 88th Carnatic Infantry and served in various cities in Mesopotamia.
