Norwegian Television
Television in Norway was Timeline of the introduction of television in countries, introduced in 1954, but the first television program was only shown in 1958, and regular broadcasts did not start until 1960. Like Denmark, Norway had only one television channel until the 1980s. Some 40% of the population have Cable television, cable TV, and 30% have Satellite television, satellite TV. Arne Bendiksen
Arne Joachim Bendiksen (19 October 1926 – 26 March 2009) was a Norwegian singer, composer and producer, described as "the father of pop music" in Norway. Career Bendiksen was born in Bergen, Norway. In the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, he was a major figure in Norwegian popular music. First, as a member of the group The Monn Keys, later as soloist and composer for other artists. Besides writing his own songs, he also translated many foreign hits into Norwegian, making them Norwegian hits. Arne Bendiksen took part in the Norwegian Eurovision Song Contest selections several times, both as an artist and as a songwriter. Three times he represented Norway in Eurovision as singer; in 1964 (Eurovision Song Contest 1964) with ''Spiral'' as soloist, in 1973 (Eurovision Song Contest 1973) with ''Å, for et spill'' and in 1974 (Eurovision Song Contest 1974) with ''Hvor er du?''. Eurovision Song Contest 1964
The Eurovision Song Contest 1964 was the 9th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, following the country's victory at the with the song "Dansevise" by Grethe & Jørgen Ingmann. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Danmarks Radio (DR), the contest was held at Tivolis Koncertsal on 21 March 1964, and was hosted by Danish TV presenter Lotte Wæver. Sixteen countries participated in the contest. made its debut this year, while decided not to enter. The winner of the contest was with the song "Non ho l'età", performed by Gigliola Cinquetti, written by Nicola Salerno and composed by Mario Panzeri. At the age of 16 years and 92 days, Gigliola Cinquetti became the youngest winner of the contest yet; a record she held until . Spiral (Arne Bendiksen Song)
Norway was represented by Arne Bendiksen, with the song "Spiral", at the 1964 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 21 March in Copenhagen. "Spiral" was chosen as the Norwegian entry at the Melodi Grand Prix (MGP) on 15 February. Before Eurovision Melodi Grand Prix 1964 The MGP was held at the studios of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation in Oslo, hosted by Odd Grythe. Five songs took part in the final with each song sung twice by different singers, once with a small combo and once with a full orchestra. The winning song was chosen by an "expert" jury. At Eurovision On the night of the final Bendiksen performed third in the running order, following the Netherlands and preceding Denmark. Each national jury awarded 5-3-1 to their top three songs, and at the close "Spiral" had picked up 6 points (5 from Denmark and 1 from Finland), placing Norway 8th of the 16 entries.
