The president of Chile ( es, Presidente de Chile), officially known as the President of the Republic of Chile ( es, Presidente de la República de Chile), is the head of state and head of government of the Republic of Chile. The president is responsible for both the Government of Chile and state administration. The Communist Party of Chile ( es, Partido Comunista de Chile, ) is a communist party in Chile. It was founded in 1912 as the Socialist Workers' Party () and adopted its current name in 1922. Arturo Salah
Arturo Salah Cassani (born 4 December 1949) is a Chilean former footballer and manager. From January 2016 until 2019 he was the president of Asociación Nacional de Fútbol Profesional. He studied civil engineering at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Manager career He began his managerial career with Colo-Colo. He won two national championships (1986 & 1989), finished runner-up twice (1987 & 1988), and won the Copa Chile three times with Colo-Colo. After that impressive run with Colo-Colo, Salah took charge of the Chilean national team from 1990 to 1993. In 1991, he led "''La Roja''" to a third place in the Copa America. Alejandro Pierola (born 20 November 1949) is a former professional tennis player from Chile. Career Pierola was a quarter-finalist in Grand Prix tournaments at Palermo in 1981 and Venice in 1982. He made two Grand Prix doubles semi-finals in 1981, at Bordeaux, with Guillermo Aubone and Palermo, with Pedro Rebolledo. Rogelio Farías Salvador (13 August 1949 – 6 April 1995) was a Chilean football midfielder who played for Chile in the 1974 FIFA World Cup. He also played for Unión Española. Antonio Vodanovic (born March 2, 1949, Santiago, Chile) is a Chilean television presenter known for being the presenter of Viña del Mar International Song Festival from 1976 to 2004. From the late 1970s to 1982 he was programming director of Televisión Nacional de Chile. 1949 Tierra Del Fuego Earthquake
The 1949 Tierra del Fuego earthquakes occurred slightly more than eight hours apart on 17 December. Their epicenters were located in the east of the Chilean Tierra del Fuego Province, close to the Argentine border on the island of Tierra del Fuego. The two shocks measured 7.7 and 7.6 on the moment magnitude scale and were the most powerful ever recorded in the south of Argentina and one of the most powerful in austral Chile. They were felt with intensities as high as VIII (''Severe'') on the Mercalli intensity scale, and affected the settlements of Punta Arenas and Río Gallegos.
