Estonia, formally the Republic of Estonia, is a country by the Baltic Sea in Northern Europe. Tallinn Jewish School
Tallinn Jewish School ( et, Tallinna Juudi Kool) is a school in the center of Tallinn, Estonia. History The Jewish School was built before World War II. When the war started the school was closed and the Sea Army center was there during the war and after war time. In 1990 the school was opened again with 350 pupils. Samuel Gurin was director from 1925 until its closure in 1940. From the re-opening in 1990 to 1993, Avivia Gluhovskaja was the director. The headmaster from 1993 until 21 June 2009 was Mihhail Beilinson, and was followed by Samuel Golomb, who remained until 2010, when the current incumbent, Igor Lirisman, took over. Faculty and facilities About 30 teachers are working in this school, and in addition one teacher of Hebrew who is sent from Israel. Every year, renovations are carried out at the school, but since the building is very old, there are a lot of problems with the main construction. 1924 Estonian Coup D'état Attempt
The 1924 Estonian coup d'état attempt was a failed coup attempt in Estonia on 1 December 1924, conducted by the Comintern,Estonia and the Estonians, Hoover Institution Press, p.15 and staged by communists (bolsheviks) who in most part had been infiltrated from the Soviet Union. Of the 279 actively participating pro-communist rebels, 125 were killed in action, later more than 500 people were arrested. The Estonian government forces lost 26 men. Background The Communist Party of Estonia had affiliated with the Comintern in 1920, and it continued underground activities in Estonia with strong Soviet Russian backing. The incapacity and death of Vladimir Lenin (January 21, 1924) triggered a struggle for power between Leon Trotsky and Joseph Stalin. Ãœlo Sooster
Ãœlo Ilmar Sooster (October 17, 1924 in Ãœhtri, Käina Parish – October 25, 1970 in Moscow) was an Estonian nonconformist painter. Ãœlo Sooster was born the village of Ãœhtri on the Estonian island of Hiiumaa. He was the son of Johannes Sooster and Veera Sooster (''née'' Tatter) and had a sister, Meedi, two years younger. His father was later remarried to Linda Vahtras. He was educated at Tartu Art College where he studied surrealism during the years 1945–1949. In 1949, his studies were cut short when he was arrested and, like hundreds of thousands of other Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians, he was arrested and deported by the Soviet authorities to Gulag. Sooster was sentenced to ten years of hard labour in a Karaganda camp. In 1956, during the Khrushchev Thaw, he was released and 'rehabilitated' by denouncing Stalinism.
